The type of tape does not matter. Im a licensed plumber with almost 20 years plumbing expirience. I use the Blue Monster, blue teflon tape for every thread i come across. Back in the day before they had the thick Blue Monster tape, i just used regular white teflon. You just use more wraps. Dont believe me? Google it, I guess. The yellow "gas" tape is just thicker tape, like the thick blue monster tape.

The "correct" tape is yellow in color, but it's the same material as the white plumbing grade tape. The yellow tape is thicker. The most likely reason you would smell gas is because of the two gas lines screwed together. It's probably a weak union.
@Elpipiton Жыл бұрын
Nope the tape matters. I've used tape rated specifically for gas lines (blue monster) redid with yellow tape. Problem solved.

@@Elpipiton No, it doesn't. You probably just taped it better the 2nd time and that's why it fixed your problem. The kind of tape itself was not the problem, it was user error. I'm a plumber and hooked up hundreds of gas connections using blue monster and never had any issues.
@Andy-im3kj Жыл бұрын
Yeah don't trust it at all. You need to take it off and get it done right. Use the right type of tape for the threads and never connect a flexible gas line with another one.

@@shabazzx6381 You're clueless. You can tape gas connections, they literally make specially designed yellow gas tape for that purpose. I'm a plumber and personally tape and dope ALL gas connections for maximum assurance. Rarely ever get a leak. You're not supposed to tape flared gas connections though as the tape can interfere with the compression seal and cause a leak which I can tell you is almost certainly the problem with this leak in the video as there's two flared connections that have tape on them that I can see. Only those kinds of gas connections shouldn't be taped, all others can be. You don't need tape when soldering either, you don't know what you're talking about, stop pretending like you do. Yes, you use tape on threaded connections for copper but that has nothing to do with soldering.
