Last week I thought I smelled gas. I got one of those gas leak detectors from Amazon, and it showed me a union that was barely leaking. I called a plumber to look at it, but they wouldn’t come over until the gas company checked it out first. The guy from the gas company was great. He was able to tighten the union and stop the leak. I didn’t have to pay a plumber now! I offered the gas company guy some money, but he refused.

Ill get behind you about sharkbites, none of those for me. Propress is just fine though. It's like any plumbing really, install it wrong and you'll have problems. It's a learned skill to do it properly. I've personally not had a need to touch it though, it's expensive for just a home owner.

My maternal grandparents and I nearly succumbed to a natural gas leak in their house in 2001. Cause of the leak was the mercury diaphragm in the meter (which was inside) ruptured overnight and filled up the ENTIRE place. Called the fire department, and their CO and gas monitors went off 15 feet from the front door, literally chooching Momma! They said if the house exploded, the whole block would have been gone, but luckily none of us suffered any aftereffects. Same day, the gas company put a new meter (this time outside) in, and a leak test was done to which it passed that day. June 28th, 2001, in Wantagh, NY, a day I'll never forget.

Explains why I never see inside meters anymore. My house used to have one, before I owned it, but it got moved outside when the lines were replaced on the street, and the supply line was moved.

Well, you won’t believe what I experienced yesterday. Apparently, a mile from my house, some imbecile was using propane to heat his house, because he couldn’t afford to pay a natural gas bill, a low income single 70 plus year old. He had God knows how many tanks of propane in his basement. His house exploded at 6:00 AM, my folks and I were asleep, I in a deep sleep. My mother and father heard what sounded like a bomb going off, and their bed moved slightly from the seismic shock. The homeowner was inside the house when it burst, sending a column of flame skyward. The house collapsed into the basement, and a neighboring home had its windows blown out, with occupants asleep inside. The homeowner amazingly survived, crawling out of the flaming ruin with only minor injuries, yelling to call 911, before passing out. He’s currently in the hospital, and who knows what his insurance will cover, if he has any, he lost everything. I’ve been by that property countless times on my way to high school, and now work, all that’s left is a smoldering ruin. I live in Ann Arbor, MI, so the news reports will show dramatic footage.

@jeffreykreft54426 ай бұрын
Holy shit, that’s some scary shit there! One things for dam sure, every piece of pipe in that house needs to be changed! This is one of those all or none I’m out of here situations because one thing I’ve learned is that once you start messing with a section of pipe you can cause a leak further down the line. It’s bad enough having to fuck with gas lines when you replace an appliance. I once caught the wife hanging a couple clothes hangers off the gas line, needless to say it won’t happen again. NOTHING touches the fucking gas lines, NOTHING! And walking into a house with a gas leak, that’s some fucked up shit right there. Been in that situation a couple times, and both times I called the gas company first and had them come out. I of course shut the main off at the meter, luckily they were outside. But if you want to get you nerves racking and your blood pressure up through the roof, go ahead and deal with that shit! It’s definitely one of those shit your pants moments. Seen a couple houses that blew up because of a gas leak, and I can tell you this, the whole fucking house looked like a pile of match sticks. Sorry went off on a tangent, but this brought back some fucked up memories. Stay safe out there, and if your ever called to a gas leak situation like this, DO NOT ENTER! Call the gas company and let them deal with clearing the house of gas and making sure it’s safe to enter, not worth risking your life over someone else’s dumb shit!
