Last six months are now left for GATE 2024. If you are a sincere aspirant and really want to get a top rank in GATE, the time has come to start giving your 100% to preparation. However, there may be many doubts in your mind: Are six months sufficient? Will I be able to get a good rank? How to manage syllabus completion, question solving, notes making, and revision all together in the remaining six months? In this article, I will answer all these questions and provide you with a way to ensure the maximum and best utilization of the next six months. I will also share a six-month toolkit with you at the end, which you can download and modify as per your preparation level. So, let's start making the six-month master plan for you. Setting the Plan First, let's look at today's date. For simplification, let's assume it's 1st August 2023. The GATE 2024 exam is approximately on 10th February 2024. So, the number of days in this plan is 193. Now, let's decide on the number of hours you will dedicate to preparation each day. It's important to keep a realistic number here. Let's say 6 hours per day, but it's recommended to keep it slightly higher if possible, such as 7 or 8 hours. Remember to consider effective number of hours, which means the actual time spent studying without distractions or breaks. So, the total effective study hours for the next six months will be 1158 hours (193 days * 6 hours per day). Targets for Preparation Now, let's discuss the targets for your preparation. There are three primary targets: Theoretical part of the syllabus Numerical part of the syllabus Question practice The theoretical part involves understanding concepts, derivations, and formulas. However, this alone won't make you good at numericals. For that, you need to focus on the numerical aspects of the topics and learn how to approach different types of questions. Revise regularly and make notes as part of your daily routine, rather than waiting until everything is covered. Remember, revision should be part of your life, not just gate preparation. Percentage Distribution of Study Time 50% - Theoretical syllabus coverage 20% - Numerical solving skills 30% - Question practice Number of Hours Based on a total of 580 hours, the distribution is as follows: Theoretical syllabus completion - 580 hours Numerical solving skills - 116 hours Question practice - 174 hours Recommended Courses For those focused on numerical solving skills, the recommended course is Exergic Pro. For those who need to cover the syllabus as well, the recommended courses are Exergic Base or Exergic Core. Question Practice You have approximately 350 hours for question practice, which allows you to solve around 7,000 questions. Make use of question banks, test series, and practice sessions to solve these questions. Modifying the Study Plan If you have more time available, you can increase the number of hours dedicated to each category. If you have already completed the theoretical syllabus, you can allocate more time to revision and question practice. The key is to ensure consistent hard work and competition with other aspirants. I'm in my 3rd year BTech and I also teach 12th grade physics for one hour everyday. I've gone through 80% of the syllabus in the past year and now starting revision.
