Why do you think armies had to change their strategy after the First World War?

This scene really captures just how fucking terrifying modern warfare really is. Think about it. One second you are walking & the next you are laying on your last breath because someone just hit you with a weapon so fast it is invisible to the eye from dozens or hundreds of kilometers away. At least in antiquated warfare, you see your enemy in the eyes; they are always in your view or somewhere in your peripheral. Battles occur locally on scales humans can easily perceive. Modern warfare on the other hand can span entire continents or even the whole planet itself & involve weapons capable of inflicting incredible devastation from ranges difficult to truly wrap your mind around. What's more is just how fast & how coordinated it is in comparison to anything classical warfare ever required. Widespread AI & planetary reconnaissance does that. These poor bastards truly had no idea what they were dealing with. Can't help but feel sorry for that general in all honesty. He fought this battle like every other he has fought before. Used everything he has been taught to overcome this mysterious enemy. Makes that last bit all the more emotionally impactful. To him, his world effectively was torn asunder in a single afternoon realizing that everything he has ever learned or done was for naught. In those brief moments, his life was rendered meaningless.

To those saying they don't feel bad or don't entirely feel bad, just know this. The Empire used this attack to cull the neighboring kingdoms so none would threaten the now weaker Empire. These men were marched intentionally to their deaths in the hopes of maintaining the social order. The attack on Tokyo, which I assume is why nobody cares what happens to these troops, was only carried out by the Imperial forces and monster mercenaries. Among the Imperial troops sent were also Noblemen and/or their first sons. So this might not have even been the Emperor's choice, but a forced hand by the Nobles.

And this is why all the smart people didn't try to raid Area 51.

Credit where it is due, Duran is actually an extremely capable leader when he tries to adapt with night raid using an angle that the night stars can't reveal their position, and immediately realizing he and his entire army was spotted due to para-flare instead of being dumbfounded and focus on the flares like the rest if he had the same tech and equipment as the modern world, he'd put up a very good fight although it was a dick move to continue fighting an unknown enemy that can obliterate his army before he even got into eye sight

the general on minute 3:00 is actually right, even in modern times , when you are at disadvantage of artillery fire, you try to take the fight were they cannot longer use it effectively, of course in modern battlefield this is harder since the front line are almost fully mobile, specially on armies like the likes of united states

This scene legitimately made me feel bad for these guys, and I was beyond relieved when I saw that the commander of the army survived. Watching his troops get massacred simply because they were fed false intel made me despise the Empire from the beginning, a rage that stayed with me all the way to the end.
