It's a 1000 year old story about Norwegian magic (ganning) and a jealous stepmother. The stepmother cursed her to live alone in the woods as a wolf (therefore the name of the song) . The only way to break the curse was to drink the blood of her brother, wich she refused. So she had to live in the forest - longing for her family. She accepted her fate living in the woods, cold and alone (because stepmother cursed her to be a wolf but still human in her mind) . One day she saw her stepmother alone on her way to church, and full of rage she killed her. Unbeknownst to her her stepmother was pregnant with her unborn brother. So in her rage and sorrow she suddenly stood as a human again. So she understood then what had happened. And is mourning her brother and also is happy to be human again. So there is many emotions there.
