Gatescarth Pass struggle. (filmed on 05/03/22) I've tried to show entire pass, hence the video might seem a bit 'slow' in places.

Cheers for sharing in its entirety. Parts of that look solid particularly on a 790/890. Top effort👍

Excellent vid, thanks for sharing and big respect for completing it on large capacity bikes, very impressive. Tried it last week but had clutch cylinder failure on the way up and just couldn't push the bike to the top. Looking at your vid we were only 200 metres from the summit and had cracked the worst parts. Ho hum. I'll be back in the spring to give it another go, it's a wonderful trail.

It is a excellent trail, what bike did you do it on?
@robddickinson42178 ай бұрын
A Beta X Trainer, which, compared to you guys, is cheating! I don't have a problem riding a bike without a clutch but unfortunately uphill starts on the a track like the Gartescarth are impossible, even with an electric start.

It’s a difficult track as is, let alone without a clutch 🙈 I would love to do it again sometime… I think I’ve done close to 700miles that weekend, great memories. It’s a shame it’s so far away for me.

Great video, thanks for sharing. I had this route pinned for doing on an eBike but now I've seen this I think I'll be taking the CRF ;). Much respect for tackling it on those machines.

@@krycekADV looking forward to it :) - any of your group having problems with the 790 clutch? been reading about people burning them out but never had problem with mine - keep oil to the top of glass and make sure free play is good - anything different from your experiences?
@krycekADV2 жыл бұрын
This was brand new 890 (only 300miles on the clock) - I think he was unlucky. I haven't had problems with mine yet (7k miles). We all have one finger clutch which probably doesn't help, but his was set correctly - one of those things.

Good call on a medium adventure bike that - let alone a 1250/1190!! Out of interest what tyres are you running on the 790? I run Motoz RallZ on mine and they spot on.
@krycekADV2 жыл бұрын
1250 unfortunately wasn't able to go all the way, I don't think its possible to do it on GS - I hope someone can prove me wrong. Other big bike is actually 1090 not 1190 - but still, its heavy beast. In regards to tyres I like Mitas E-09 it might not last as Motoz, but from the tests we did on mud in January mitas was much better than motoz - we did pretty fair and comprehensive comparison and it was like night and day. I have RallZ in my garage, waiting to be fitted at some point - but I think I might do it in a summer.

do you think you could get up on a wet day. looked very hard trail.

It would be a struggle on day with bad conditions, it was quite challenging in places. I would love to try it again another time - shame it’s so far away

I wonder if anyone has managed it on a road bike? Was thinking of taking my transalp 750 on it with a couple of mates. We all have 50/50 tyres.
@krycekADV3 ай бұрын
We had a GS with us at the time, couldn’t go past the bottom bit. I think you will struggle on a road tyres, it’s pretty loose surface there and steep. Its probably not impossible, but it would be more pushing than riding (I think). Also a lot depends on the weather and conditions. Give it a go, I wonder if you can start from the back and go downhill - just get a feel for it, but even that wouldn’t be plain sailing. Remember that you have to get the permit - I think they get pretty booked up.

@@krycekADV Maybe better tyres then. I have a mate who did this pass on a tracer 700 with Pirelli Scorpion tyres. So I suppose it is entirely possible based on your skill levels.
@krycekADV3 ай бұрын
More prepared you go it will be more fun I recon, so why not get the best tires you can. I was looking to do it again one day, see how my skill progressed over the years. Could be a nice test 😁 although last time I’ve checked the website it was fully booked next few months 😬
