I've been there my friend, 11 years off grid here. In my county you have to get a salvage permit to get dead and down firewood. They just want to make sure you're not selling the wood and they know where you are at in case someone calls it in. Eventually you'll have a log splitter, 1 year wood, and 2 year wood piles.

I love your firewood videos, I could look at them all evening, you put so much in to it, and you never leave the area cluttered. Please keep them up.

You do it good, and you are very likable guy, and you have found different ways to do things and thats amazing. I have been a logger/climber for 16 years , the only thing I hope you will do different is, buy personal protection gear when you using a chainsaw, and an orange or yellow west. Keep doing what you do it’s good.

Wood warms you twice. When chopping it and when burning it. But gathering wood the way you are doing warms you 3 times ! Lucky you. It should be a common practice for people to gather dead fallen wood the way you did but there is always someone (or multiple someones) who have to blow it for the rest of us. Forest fires would be greatly reduced by doing this, too. Oh, when will they put 2 and 2 together? Nice work. You're going to be blessed by all that wood this winter. Satisfaction guaranteed. (I was worried about bug infestations though, being up against the house. May be something to consider.)

Cutting the downed trees is a good thing so they don't go to waste, you are making the area look nice again. Used oil is good if you are putting in posts, or logs into the ground. Just coat the part going into the ground let them sit a few hours, they won't rot for a very long time. Get yourself a cheaper log splitter in the summer months, because you will need 10 of your pickup truck loads to last the winter.

Hey brother…check out some videos on people using a tire and chopping wood into smaller chunks…the tires prevents the wood from falling and having to reach down every time. Bigger the tire, bigger the logs. Some great ideas even mounting the tire on top of a big stump. Saved me much time! Great videos!

older video but popped up on my feed i do love my milwaukee 18v but if im doing clean ups i need the gas saw its nice for going out for a half hour of cutting and splitting but the batterys heat up buttt i did 4 cords my first year owning a home with a milwaukee chainsaw and a fiskers maul

Dear DTH guy. 👍👌👏 Thanks a lot for not using such a bad device like a combustion engine driven chainsaw. Electrical ones (especially the types with a cord), are much lighter and stronger. They don't produce stinking and poisonous exhaust fumes and don't wear out as fast. Most importantly they are much, much quieter and have way less vibrations. Additionally: Men are not able to play with the throttle all the time (unfortunately almost all men all over the world have this bad habit while using combustion engine driven cutting devices). 2) Please kindly allow me to suggest some things: a) Gather as much free firewood as you can as long as there is some. Somebody might have the same idea and then it's gone. Split it and throw it on a heap. You always can build your firewood shed later. b) Regardless of the thickness/diameter, please always split any firewood at least in half (especially if it is fresh). Even if it's only sticks. It will dry better and you will definitely have less wood pests/fungus (if any). c) Don't burn wet wood (not even at night). The sap will always create creosote. Your stove and especially the chimney/pipes will have problems with that and you have to sweep them more often. d) Please use the big teeth on your chainsaw also while cutting middle sized trees/limbs. Let the saw do the work and save your own power for other things. e) Please try not to bend over so much and often while working respectively cutting wood. Your body will be thankful and definitely age slower. f) Therefore: Get or build yourself a foldable sawhorse/sawbuck. Take it with you and use it while cutting firewood. g) Please let the splitting axe/hammer do the work. Please don't put the hammerhead behind your head and don't bend backwards so much. Try a different swinging technique. When getting old, you have to do so either way. So why not while you are still young and strong instead of wearing your body out. Your back etc. will definitely be more than thankful. Fortunately/unfortunately I know all this out of my own and other peoples bad experiences. I'm always good as a bad example! 🙈 😁 I'm eagerly looking forward to watch another free wood gathering video. Best regards, luck and health in particular.

I have had wood heat most of my life, I've also had electric heat. Electric heat is not as warm, and in today's world...very costly! So if you lose your heat because you can't pay your bill, you also can lose it because the power is knocked out. And of course, with all of these electric gadgets that we have today, there is more draw from the power grid entirely. I'm like your buddy Al, there is a sense of accomplishment when you can do as much as you can to stay away from all of these large corporations that provide services, and charge a fair amount. Lastly, a lot of these green options are no greener than burning wood. There are huge bills for building batteries and recycling them, and large bills for making plastic or metal that make things that we need./want We're simply putting funds into another pair of hands...

Fun fact, in norway it is illegal to take wood that has fell over without talking to the owner of the property, worst case u could be fined and forced to plant a New tree for the owner.

Who cares what people think. You are doing a public service by cleaning up the mess so you deserve the fire wood. I also have a battery edge trimmer and lawn mower. I use my petrol ones but I keep them for times where I can’t get petrol the battery ones will get my out of trouble and I already had all the power tools so I had the batteries.

Just tell the idiots you are completing your community service according to the Judges orders.
