GUUURRLLL! THIS IS THE SEWING HACK OF THE DECADE!! Take it from me, a costume designer of (ahem) many years... I've had carpel tunnel syndrome and trigger finger in both hands at once. Loosening the ruffle is SO much less work than gathering it by hand. This method you have shared is pure sewing magic! 😂 Thank you so so very much! *BUT* my machine was set up with 3 threads, so I tried like that just to see what would happen and it WORKS! I set the one needle to 9, and used all your other settings. Got me a lovely, curled up ruffle on the FIRST TRY!!😭😭😭 I hacked your hack lol! 🤣 I'm blown away, forever grateful and super inspired! Thanks a Million! 🥰✨🥰✨🥰

I’ve had a serger for about 8 years now, have used it regularly and have known for some time that you could gather with it. What I didn’t know was that having gathered you could then adjust the amount of gathering. I’d never used my serger for gathering because I thought it was a matter of trial and error to get the correct length for the project. I feel quite stupid not realising this but thank you so much for pointing this out. I have now gathered a summer skirt with my serger and am amazed how fast and easy it is.

Thank you so much for this very informative video! I was one of those who was intimated at first and let my serger sit for a couple of months in the box! 😱 lol But once I learned to thread it, set the tension, knew it would cut the fabric & do a basic stitch, I never bothered to find out about all the other buttons or bells and whistles. Well, that worked for a good while until it needed to be put in the shop! The serger was fixed but unbeknownst to me the settings where changed, lol. Now (thanks to your video), I'm forced to learn all the "extras" I should've learned but I was too scared to. And it actually feels pretty good!

I am so happy I have found your tutorial. I have the same serger, thing is I couldn't leave it near 9 cuz one of the needle threads kept breaking, left it close to 8. I am gonna make so many ruffles from now on 😂😂😂. Great job, Thank you

Oh my goodness! Thank you. I have been trying to master this forever and all I was finding were videos with ruffle feet. I wanted to learn with a plain ole foot. I am so appreciative o

A little advice: always set your serger blade on the lowest position if you are not going to use it. This is to prevent fabric getting snagged and stuck between both blades.

How do I do that?
@arreiTaLramA3 жыл бұрын
@@karinavlog9703 turn the hand wheel counterclockwise until the blade is in the lowest position, then click the knife switch to lock it in position. This is with the Brother 1034D serger.

This is such a good video. My first thread keeps breaking and I changed the needle. I just can’t figure out why when I move to the tension higher than 4 it breaks. Any tips?😢

Hi there! I arrived here actually through your review on amazon for the Juki MO654DE so I'm surprised to see you sewing with a Brother serger here! Trying to decide between the two you see... I sew ocassionally and want it to make a handful of outfits for myself a year. Do you ever see a need for me to upgrade to the Juki? Is the JUKI that much more quiet than the Brother?

I have been gathering on my serger for about a year. Usually 8,8,4,4. For some reason lately, anytime I put the needle tension about 6 and 5, the thread breaks. Any suggestions? Side settings 2, 4, 5.

Pat Lawson Do you mean a flat piece such as a bodice and the gather you make at the same time to attach to the hem that is being made from the rectangle of fabric? The answer is, "No". You need a gathering foot for your sewing machine for that. It's a very handy presser foot, but does not work on a serger, however.

this is elastic tread?
@carylhalfwassen85554 жыл бұрын
dili No, standard serger thread. The high number on the two needle tension dials plus the increased speed of the feed dogs to 2 (differential knob on the left) create the ruffle factor.
