That's a really good point about the peanut butter taking out the burn of the spices. We're actually not sure who won this year. We had to unfortunately leave before they announced the winner. One our way back to the hotel, we passed the cookoff as they were dismissing and asked some people who were leaving if they knew who won. They said that so many people won awards that they couldn't remember who won the judges choice and the people's choice. They have a lot of other awards such as the best booth too. Once we figure out who won, we'll pin it in the comments. Unfortunately, we won't be in the mountains that week. We would have really enjoyed meeting you and hanging out at a restaurant with you. We'd love to attend a chili cookoff in Texas. We bet that the chili is amazing. Fruit is not too common in chilis here in Tennessee, but beans are almost always a main ingredient next to the meat in chili.

We tried some of the weird green stuff and realized that we didn't really enjoy it. The traditional chili styles were much better. It's so natural to throw the spoons away and not event think twice about it. It's great to hear that you also know about the awesome combo of PB sandwiches and chili and that's a really clever idea to pack some for next year! We use two different cameras for filming but the one that we used in this video is the one that we use the most often. The natural lighting was in our favor with the clearness. All of the International Chili Society booths had mild to very high heat levels - you would have really enjoyed them. The cookoff usually has a little more variety, but this year a lot of the chilis were very similar to one another. It's a really great event.

You will love them, Holly. They were so good. Just be sure to grab you a hot bowl of chili to go with it and you'll be all set. :)

Linda Lou - we've never tried that before but we could see where that may be a really tasty addition. We maybe have to try adding that to our chili one day.

We missed it this year. We missed about 3 of the booths and that was one of them. Because we had so much chili with the International Chili Society booths beforehand, we were starting to become too full to do any more tastings. We heard that his was excellent. We tried his last year and really enjoyed it.

We don't know. We had to unfortunately leave early and later, we asked a few people who were leaving towards the end, but no one who we asked knew who won. They said that so many awards were presented that they couldn't remember who actually won. Once we figure out the winners, we'll pin them to the comments.

lol, every single booth at this cookoff would have been disqualified from the very start. We heard that beans are a no go in chili down in Texas.

@@jamesboswell760Are potatoes just filler in beef stew? Are noodles just filler in chicken soup? Neither potatoes nor noodles add much flavor, either, but people generally like a starchy component in the soups & stews, not just meat, because it makes them feel more like a meal. The ICS allows beans in their "Homestyle" chili category, just not in the "Traditional Red" category. Fun fact, beans have been used in chili since the 1800s, even before cumin was added.
