Finally, a version where the choir doesn't belt through the first verse as quickly as possible! It's meant to be sung ad a sort of reminiscence, not a sped up dirge.

No, it's meant to be a joyful humanist song about how life is short and passes quickly so might as well have fun. It's not meant to be a dignified church music.

Indeed, a well sung Gaudeamus, with the proper tempo. And the orchestration gives a nice company, never overrides the choir, but maintains the magnificence of the three stanzas, specially the last one. Cheers!
