Same. I'm beginning to see the movie was inspired by the old story, but given a more grim, realistic, and pessimistic view of Gawain

The movie is full of occult ideas. The relationships in the film do not match the poem. The original has a theme of Christianity’s triumph over paganism. The green knight representing paganism. As usual, the poem is better than the film.

@@julielarry3551 Yes, the movie does diverge from the original poem, yet you cannot say the original is free of occult themes. Fairies are essentially demons according to Christianity, which the green knight is from the fairy kingdom. Poems, as all poems go, are open to interpretation, yet the movie is a bit more straightforward. As many post-modern pieces of literature or movies depict, the movie uses the bad, evil, or dishonorable elements of people to show how we, as a society should not act. Whereas the poem, as classical literature does on many occasions, is direct and tells rather than shows what the correct course of action is or what good morals we should be emulating as the reader/observer.

WARNING: If you're reading this for school, this includes a part about "lady elfinhart" that isn't included in other versions! Otherwise its almost the exact same, but i'd recommend a different version.

@@ghne887 you can listen to this one, but you should also read the spark notes summary so you can know which part of the story is added and which part is normal

I thought I was going to hear the original in middle english. Its not even a translation. And the original isnt a fairy tale but a tale of morality, chastity, honour.

That's mainly because this version of the story is a much modern retelling/translation and leaves out a lot of detail The original played with form and was honestly a harder yet more satisfying read
