Gaylord Carter was a fabulous smash hit when in the latter 60's he appeared at the Hollywood High Auditorium (which then and probably still now) came equipped with a huge pipe organ. He accompanied the silent film thriller, "The Eagle" starring Rudolph Valentino. The very fortunate Hollywood High student body went nuts over this brilliant presentation which opened lots of eyes and ears to glory of the silent era movie "cathedrals" as they were once called. That same year, we students, were also treated to another momentous visit by none other than the great David Lean, who was then discussing his brand new release of Dr. Zhivago, after which presentation we marched en masse up to Hollywood Blvd. and into a nearby theatre to watch this unforgettable film. We Hollywood High students were pretty danged spoiled in those days and almost came to expect such magnificent treats. Ah, the nostalgia.

These theatre silent movie organists were very special people, if you went to see a film more than once the music was always slightly different and kept each viewing fresh,

The year is wrong in this title. This concert was in the latter part of July, 1995. I attended & have quite a bit of rehearsal footage of Gaylord & Chris Elliott taken on the stage & from the balcony with a Sony 8mm camcorder. Not Hi8, but with a stereo soundtrack.

He sure didn't look 90! I mean, sure, he didn't look like a spring chicken either but he didn't look anywhere near 90 though. Good for him, what a career!
