We bought a set that was mostly a climbing gym. It was different than the swings and a slide which kids get bored with so quickly. Also they used most often when I would go out and sit to watch. They loved having me see what things that they could do. It was a lot of "Hey mom, watch this.". But we built many, many memories plus a closeness between us because I set aside a time each day for them. It emphasizes to the child how important you are to me. I didn't try to read or do anything else, I just sat in the shade and watched. (And I loved the break in the early afternoon, after lunch, before I resumed the chores I had for the day.)

For most people, I think they have happy childhood memories of playing around in a garden, exploring the woods, swimming in a creek or pond, etc. But you don't really hear that for a playset no matter how nice it is. I think what you have for the kids is already special and you shouldn't feel like they're missing out on something. Especially since they can do that somewhere else.💜
@dryb3301
@dryb3301 3 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Children create their own things to play with. A tree would be a house or a bush would be a bunker like that. No need to put playset. Just my opinion though. They get more creative when you don't have a play set

Kids like to be with other kids . My neighbour who has two toddlers have a beautiful wooden play set and they hardly even use it now. They would rather come out in the street and go play with their neighbour friends and go to the park because that becomes an adventure.

Regarding playsets, I recommend going simple. A couple swings and a slide are going to be plenty. My kids love the park and always play on swing sets at other houses but weren’t as interested in playing on our swing set at home. So my advice is go simple!

'No' to the playset. Take them to a playground where other children are playing. You have A LOT of fun things to do and fun places, nooks and crannies, trees, bare patches, and grass for them to play. Keep it beautiful!

A simple play set is my suggestion, we did that for our children for when they were not exploring in the woods and fields. Then when the first grandchild came we bought a small Playskool swing set and had it for 19 years! We just this last summer gave it to the neighbor and now we have just 2 swings on large posts. Simple is good. Love all your plans for your property. I enjoy seeing all the beautiful things that you plant grow!

Moving the garden shed on poles is very old. I saw my Dad use this method for many things, little did he know it had featured in his family history. In 1916 Queensland, Australia an incredible flood washed away the mining town of Clermont, built too close to a lagoon, over 60 people died including many members of his family. Later the whole town was relocated to higher ground, including very large two story timber hotels with open verandahs - all moved by steam traction engines and rolled on large, long logs... wonderful old glass plates remain showing the process. Tracing the family history uncovers many things... The greenhouse will be fabulous, can't wait to see it start! 👍🦘

Super interesting and exciting to see how everything is changing. I know it looks stark right now, but it’ll change quickly. I’d be tempted to get the brick patio out now too, a bit like pulling off the bandages quickly. You’ll end up causing yourself less upset by getting back to ‘destructive mode’ if you do it later, when part of the area is already in ‘creating mode’. I’d say get it over and done with, so that you can scale up your ambitions for the entire area. It’ll be great!

We didn’t have a play set for our six children because we lived in a town with several parks we could walk to. The nice thing about going to the park was that it was intentional time together. The walk to and from the park, as well as being at the park, was time focused on being with them. They are all grown up now but STILL talk about us taking them to “the park”. This is giving my poor little heart so much happiness! We moved to a property about five years ago that had been a party pad for college students. We were renting from friends so we had free reign to garden and fix up and do as we liked. We weren’t making much at the time, so it was lots of sweat equity and working with what was here. Now that we’re doing better financially, we’re in talks to buy the place and I have dreams of razing the entire landscape and starting fresh! So exciting ☺️ I’m more like Aaron in that fashion - give me a blank slate! My husband stoves up a bit at drastic change. 🤷🏻‍♀️ keeps me grounded and helps him move forward, I suppose 😘

Laura thanks so taking us on this journey! So exciting! So much inspiration and I love hearing how you and Aaron “walk through” and plan for projects it provides me with so much inspiration and information. I can’t wait for the next video 🥰. As far as play sets go my kids love love love theirs but I have it set up in the middle of “their” garden they even have their own “greenhouse” attached. I hope you have an amazing week!

As pretty as the tulips will be from the raised bed, I would definitely remove that whole bricked area. I’m surprised you haven’t done it already. To me it doesn’t quite fit... 🙃.

I think Laura means not moving right now. She mentioned going ahead and moving hydrangeas while they are dormant so it’s all going eventually. All in stages and WE can all enjoy the beautiful flowers when they bloom this spring. I’d love to see that brick repurposed somewhere on the new property. 🌼🌼🌼

I’m with you Debbie, that patio is very rustic (bordering on ratty) and doesn’t seem like it will fit in with her formal vision for that space at all. Now is the time to remove it while everything else is going!

I agree, Debbie. It’s the one area I’ve never really liked, mainly due to how uneven the brick is.

Laura looks absolutely thrilled about the new greenhouse and what the gardens will become! About the playset - my kids had one and just like your kids, my son was older than his baby sister and used the playset less (spent more time riding his bike). My daughter used it all the time. The swings and the little fort at the top of the slide was for her dolls and stuffed animals. She loved it. When she out grew it, we gave it to our neighbors who had a new little baby and we put in a patio with firepit!

Just a thought, but the huge cone boxwoods that you have located by the gazebo, would look absolutely beautiful and striking planted in those large stunning Unique stone or Henry studio planters that you have. That would make a grand entry statement onto your property. 🪴💚🌿 I’m so happy and excited for you guys. I’m looking forward to watching all the transformation unfold in your garden. 🥰

My brother and I loved our old-school swing set growing up! Having one at home gives the potential to enjoy it daily, whereas a trip to the park is not a daily event. Plus, your two littles swinging on a sunny day, set to music, would make an awesome video!

I was so glad to see your Rose of Sharon with it's buds/pods still on it. I have a 10ft high x 30ft long hedge of ROS and some years I just can't get it pruned back before it snows. (I'm in Eastern Iowa - zone 5b and I swear every year it snows earlier and earlier.) So now I don't feel bad that mine are full of pods!

I understand coming into a garden, and trying to make it your own, even though there is so much that is someone else's vision...then you get your dream greenhouse, and now it will be "your" garden, a total dream come true, a little envious here, but am anxiously looking forward to each video. That brick would be awesome to reuse around the greenhouse in pathways, or a side sitting area, it has so much character.

I think you should definitely get a playset for Benjamin and Samantha Grace. My siblings and I loved our playset when we were younger. There were so many memories that were made on the playset. I think Benjamin and Samantha would love a playset as much as I did as a child.

A treehouse with a rope to swing on was our favorite place when I was a kid. I am sure we had a swing set, but I don’t remember it at all. Our creative minds conjured up SO many scenarios to pass the time up in that tree house and beneath it. It was AWESOME!

We added a wooden club house with a slide for our kids and they loved it. But seriously, the part the used the most was the shaded sandbox underneath. Many hours of fun was had! That has been gone for years now but what is so much fun now is that when I'm digging in my garden where the sandbox used to be, every now and then I'll find little plastic army men that they played with in the sand. Such wonderful memories.

Thank you, thank you for providing this video to share your plans. I am an avid follower and I have to admit that I was sad when I saw the pines 🌲🌲 being removed along with all the understory and shade garden below. I kept saying “What? Is? Happening?” I am so glad to hear your vision today and can “see” things more clearly. I love ♥️ that all the existing plants are being planned for, as always, too. Now, it’s full steam 🚂 ahead to your more formal garden, with your dream greenhouse and all the trimmings! We are all right with you on this new adventure. So, so happy for you, Laura & Aaron! 😊

Your enthusiasm is infectious, and I can use it! We had to remove two mature trees and a large shrub last year, and couldn’t find the replacements we wanted. Looking out the window at the empty beds and one remaining shrub is daunting. Luckily the spring bulbs will be adding some cheer soon.
