GBHL Damian's Hobby VLOG 55 February-April 10 week Mega catch-up!

The recent pandemic has thrown the world into chaos and Damian's Hobby VLOGs have fallen by the wayside as a result. However, he's managed to find time to film a mega-hobby VLOG to catch up on all of the hobby he's been up to for the last 10 weeks.

Smashing video again. Funnily enough a decade or more ago I did something similar in terms of tracking models brought & painted for a couple of years. I was focusing on a Swedish Thirty Years War army then (ME SBG only started to impinge on my hobby time in 2007). It was easier to churn through infantry and you only needed dismounts for dragoons not the rest of the cavalry. It's an army which still gets an outing once in a while with my wargaming friends (last time was January this year).

I've finished 88 models since lockdown, about 120 on the year so far...versus maybe 60-70 purchased. Making a nice dent in the backlog.

Oh yes, that Éowyn from the Final Fate of the Witchking Diorama is great - the whole set is amazing! I painted her up for a tournament right before the Dernhelm miniature was released and I prefer her to the plastic Éowyn on foot. The latter seems to be a bit small... But the mounted version of Dernhelm is among my favourites of the whole range. The plastic Uruk-Hai still hold up quite nicely! The only thing I detest about them are the mold lines... I love the reddish tinge on your metals with the Morannon Orc heroes. I noticed it first on the Enforcer's sword - I'll have to steal that once I paint mine. Your numbers, while in the red, sound really promissing. Especially looking when comparing the total of this year to last year's. Sadly I also slipped into the red numbers with 153 models bought and 145 painted. I recently bought the aforementioned plastic Uruk-Hai and hope to paint them up quickly to get me back into the green!

Thanks for all the kind words - very much appreciated! I really like the new Eowyn too but when we're painting models for the magazine we often have specific shots in mind and the FFOTWK one just had a better poe for what we were after. I completely agree about the Uruk-Hai range - it think they still stand up as one of the best sculpted factions in the game. Glad you like the red, as I think I say in this video, it's largely done by just working Reikland Fleshshade into the recesses. Yeah, as mad as it sounds I'm really happy with my numbers and I've now painted more this year than I did in the whole of last year which is a really cool milestone. Congrats on your progress too - sounds like you've got some good numbers there! Hope the irks go well! - Damian

Cant wait to see your murder of crows! And to hear how it performs on the table once we are able to play again. Im slightly concerned about the success of your pledge of painting/selling more models than bought. Let me know when you are about to sell and i can help you 😀 im also a bit (roughly 20) behind of my own pledge to paint 2 models for each 1 i buy.

Cheers Raine! The Murder of Crows project is now complete and the second article has now been submitted to Warhammer Community - I suspect it'll be online in a couple of weeks. Once that's been published, I'll film a Hobby VLOG looking exclusively at the Crebain but I'm gonna keep the 'big reveal' for the War-com article. Thanks for your concern, I'm oddly not all that worried, sure I've bough a load but I genuinely hope to have most of them done by the end of the year and I've already painted more models this year than I did in the whole of last year so it's very much been a positive hobby year for me already! Good look on your own pledge! :-) - Damian

Good work Mr O'Byrne. How come you bought 18 total from forgeworld when you converted up the bases for 14, a clever man would have spread out 10 packs of crebain over 14 bases to get 18 total, then your ratio would be really rocking XD

Ha, Cheers! I could have pushed that really far and ended up with 189 bases of Crebain! It didn't even occur to me to be honest but I like the idea of not spreading them out as it takes the flock look denser that way! - Damian

Do you prefer the finecast or metal ballista?

I don't really have a strong feeling one way or the other. I suppose that the Finecast one was easier to clean up and is lighter so sits on slopes on the table better so it's less likely to chip - I'd probably go with that one - Damian
