Episode 1 of GCF's episodes of the Covid Chronicles documentary series.
This first full episode shows the first part of the recent giraffe translocation in Namibia. The film crew spent time with the GCF team in the field learning all about what preparation goes into a giraffe relocation: building a boma, team briefing, helicopter recces and finally herding giraffe into the boma with the helicopter. Watch as this incredible partnership and operation between the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism Namibia, Conservation Travel Foundation and GCF develops over the next few episodes.
GCF has joined forces with the Namibian Covid Chronicles documentary series, a joint production by Travel Channel Namibia and Ultimate Safaris Namibia with the help of a magnificient group of people in Namibia.

It's nice to see that you folks have a good truck for giraffe transport. Those little stake bed's previously used were pretty scary. Those boma's are good to go too. Less physical touching and no lasso'ing these guys and gals. Giraffe are like a big dog!

Thanks Frank. We are lucky to have such an experienced game capture partner in Namibia in Du Preez Wild who made this process incredibly efficient and with as little stress to the animals as possible. Translocation methods can really vary across the continent depending on what resources are available in that specific country, but we make do with what we have to ensure the safety of the giraffe and the team.
