Hm. My old club, the East Midlands CC, organised the 1970 World Championship Team TT trials. I pushed off the avaricious perhaps, Les West (who was exhorting his fellow team members with the advice "remember lads, no pennies today") and I noticed he used Giro Di Sicilia bends. I went to Sid Mottram's shop, bought a pair and used them for years. I thought you should know this. (I don't get out much).

I had 38 cm bars on my last bike (late 80s Centurion Dave Scott). Felt a bit twitchy compared to 42 cm bar. It was a traditional bend too. My favorite set up is a compact drop 42 or 44.

thats interesting. i have long been using the "ergo" shape, only recently coming round to the "anatomic" shape and i must say i dont want to go back. i mean i have literally sections to grip properly, instead of one round curve thats gonna be comfortable for a maximum of 3 fingers at a time. only problem right now for me is to change all my stems because the reach has changed...

Integrated cable routing is far more important than the "bling" factor of having a single-unit "barstem" with fancy graphics. Get the cables cleanly routed through the bar, stem and head tube. Now you can worry about optimizing fit for the rider and then the shape of the leading edge and the barstem joinery.

Airo and corved makes the The Comfort Table. Still very humble guy Viviani. Definitely narrow bars are useless becouse your shoulders, hips knees are never in the Airrooo position :)) elbows tend to slip outwards when your tired. They use 40-42s because they need to be narrow sprinting to the finish line. Wider bars will get them tangled up when they bump up. For non racers, a wider bar gives you more control, comfort and pulling power using your arms. A 46mm bar is only 1 extra bar diameter each side.
@chuckyfox9284
@chuckyfox9284 11 ай бұрын
A wider bar will not give you more "pulling power", that is never a limiting factor. Narrower bars are much more comfortable unless you are huge. I ride 38cm for ultra endurance and I am fairly big at 190cm 90kg 12%bf.

The reason why the general public riders don't use the traditional bars is due to availability. I prefer the traditional bars and find I have to do some hunting to find the right ones. Having been a racer/rider since the mid 80s I found the new bend is rubbish for sprinting.

The morale of the story is that most pro riders prefer traditional drops and narrow bars with an aero top section. And this is NOT what the sponsors are making! They make funny drops, wide bars (even if they claim them to be aero) and they fail to see that you don't have to go wider if the stem gets longer in any integrated combination! So please please please, like all of those riders ask: make 40cm bars with aero tops and traditional drops and shape, and if you make those integrated, make them with 12 or 13cm stems. That's all most racers need and will like.

I would say almost for certain that you can produce more power with a wider bar (lungs are opened up more). However, in the real world the increased power may not actually be faster as it is also less aero to have a wider bar.

It went together easily in less than an hour. kzfaq.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
