sitting here writing boards struggling bc of this lmao. Im still getting good grades but i just wish i put in more effort. But the thing is you cant just tell students things like this.. You would only realize the importance through experience :)

I haven’t not been revising but in bio and chem I haven’t learned much in grade 9 (I’m taking igcse) it’s summer and I’ve been trying to revise/learn it Ik it’s late but I’m making revision notes for when I take mocks and the real exam

#1, don't be afraid to experiment. #2, print out your specification. #3, start early (make notes as your doing that topic) #4 take time for yourself. #5 find ways to motivate your self. #6 print out past papers a lot #7 don't neglect topics you struggle with. #8. Treat end of topic tests and mocks like the real deal (revise and practice prepapring for the real exams) #10 note down your errors #11 try new things (Just in case you guys forgot and needed a little note)

currently spring break and I’m in year 10. You saying make resources during/ after every unit makes me realise how behind I am since I’ve been very preoccupied with extracurriculars and massive homework assignments. I get burnt out very easily and cannot place things into perspective without taking a step back. I have little to no notes on organisation and it’s a massive topic I’ve been working on since autumn. Mocks are a bit over a month away and I have some past papers to do over e holiday, this video helped me to take the step back I needed so thank you!! Hope you’re doing well :)

hey, tysm I'm in yr10 and spring term but I'm currently not doing too well as i just had my parents evening and my parents don't think I'm doing my best and need to do work as well not just in school so i have to start doing more revision, hope ill improve

Hi, I'm a Y9 student that was just moved up to Y10, thanks for these pieces of advice! The gcses are a lot of fun to work on, I love working for hours upon hours per day! Thanks for the vid! Tips that I definitely reccomend is definitely to use active methods of explanation to prove understanding, doing topical tests, re covering subjects, breaking down papers into segments and making papers to consistently do out of questions you find hard/ are difficult

Really wish I knew the specification tip in year 10 / grade 9. I feel like I studied a lot of unnecessary material esp in subjects like chemistry from the textbook. 3 months away from my igcses and only now do I know about it 🗿

it depends how much you actually like science and whether you want to take it further, idk if this is everyone’s case but in my school i still have science every single day even tho i’m only doing double. if you’re genuinely interested in science i’d say do triple but it’s your choice, even doing double you still get a lot of learning in.

Hey I have a question for you! I have my GCSE exams in another 4 months. I study for 12-15 hours a day (self study, without school online classes) I revise all the subjects for at least 2 or 1-1/2 hours. Before I start a chapter I do some mcqs with discussion and one or two structure questions. If I had learnt that part already, I would do it without looking but if I haven’t I revise that specific chapter and do the question. So, in all the subjects I complete a past paper for a week. And I also do past papers after each and every chapter. I’m planning to cover the syllabus by December with 8 or 9 years of past paper discussion. And for the remaining days or months, I’ll be revising the past paper again without looking because I would have already covered the syllabus by then. What do you think of my timetable? Will I be able to take 9As? Please let me know and also tell me if you have anything to add. Did you do anything apart from this?

You could probably get straight grade 10s! I revise no more than 6 hours a day and i'm working at straight 7s. Straight 8s would be decent for me.

Hi, I use the iPad Air 4 and the MacBook Pro (2017 edition)! Honestly, I'm not the best person to ask for this but if you're looking to buy an iPad I would recommend either going for the same one as mine or the iPad 8th Generation depending on how much you're willing to spend!

I have a very important question (important for myself at least): If I write down notes in my notebook and go through them multiple times, then print a past paper test that includes the topics I revised and wrote in my notebook, would that be classified as active or passive revision and would it be an idea way to revise? Because I still do not really know the true difference between passive and active revision, thank you very much.

It depends on what you mean by 'going through them', when you read your notes and write them, it is passive if you simply copy them. If you do it from memory, then it would be active, since you're engaging your brain to recall what you can - it's a slight change but will help you more. Write what can't remember in a different colour and 'go through' those more by using flashcards or reading them out loud and then explaining it to yourself. Then wait some hours or a day before doing the past paper (spaced repetition). This would be full active learning since rereading and copying are passive (not critically thinking or recalling) but practise papers are active. This would be very effective for most subjects, except (ignore this rant of mine) for english literature and language. I really struggle with thinking of what to write, and I have no clue how to practise that skill without forcing myself to sit down and write for an hour on practise questions, as mentally exhausting as that is, and even then it doesn't work! I swear my level of writing is the same (if not worse because I'm forgetting so much vocabulary) as it was in year 8 and I'm in year 10 now. How can I improve 😭

@@hana-ov1ju I haven’t even started revision for English so idk what to say, but probably an ideal way to revise (for literature at least) is to just do exam questions and test ur knowledge on PETAL paragraphs, see where your weaknesses and strengths are for each letter in PETAL, whether it’s the point ur making, the use of quotes, identifying techniques and if you can link back to the question, etc. In the process you should also time yourself to practice your timing because trust me I never knew it was important until mid year 9 (I’m in year 10 at the moment)

Yes, look up the specification of the exam board and subject you are doing. It basically has all of the topics/information you need to know

Im going into year 10 next year and im reallyy worried. I didnt do well on my recent maths test and thats gonna decide whether im doing foundation. I failed it but apparently you had to get way lower than what i got to be doing foundation so thankfully im doing the higher paper! I really revised a lot and i still got less than half. Im really upset because im not naturally smart at all and my friends who never revise got more than me Also apparently when im doing my actual gcses in year 11, i wont have any past papers. Hey. I've been struggling a lot with Maths and also got below 50% on my final exam even tho I revised loads, so i get how it feels. Just make sure you relax over summer so you aren't burnt gout and can make good progress in year 10. Maybe go over the topics you found heard this year a couple weeks before summer ends? In terms of past papers ive also heard the same thing, however my maths tutor said he was going to start giving me past papers to try once yr 10 mocks come around. Because of that I'd assume they'd still be helpful but im not completely sure. If you want some good websites for maths revision, Corbettes Maths and Dr. frost are really good. Have a nice day!
