Thanks a lot for making this video. I'm a bit confused though, how does the coil manage to turn 180 degrees without the commutator at 1:31. At 90 degrees, the coil is supposed to stop rotating as the forces are vertical and there is no perpendicular distance from the centre of the coil. Even if there's inertia and the coil rotates beyond vertical, the forces will push the coil back to the vertical position. Also, every textbook says that the commutator reverses current in the coil at 180 degrees but it's actually at 90 degrees; when the coil is vertical. Please help me out
@frc69
@frc69 2 жыл бұрын
i think your getting confused with a generator
@a2editz605
@a2editz605 2 жыл бұрын
Ok, as far as I understood, the commutator breaks up the circuit at 90 degrees since it's vertical but moves on due to its motion and reattaches the circuit at 180 degrees. However, that coil at 1:31 is probably just a cell attached to a coil, rendering the breaking up of the circuit impossible, so it goes on to move 180 degrees and stops as the current direction changes.
@harjapp
@harjapp 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think we have to know it in that much detail, just that a plot ring commutator is used in a motor, which changes the current every half turn, which means that the coil will rotate in the same direction, allowing a motor to be created. In terms of why it keeps spinning when not touching the terminals, there is momentum which means it stays spinning, and then as soon as it touches the terminal, the current is reversed allowing it to continue spinning the same way.
