Tatum and Brown both do it😂 bro I can keep going lol the reason why it's a travel is bc he picked up the ball with both hands meanwhile Harden let's the ball spin in his hand while stepping back. There's a loophole within the rule, Embiid just did it wrong lol

Huh you just make sure you aren’t completely holding the ball while stepping back and you’re fine lmao. Rulebook states it can only be a travel if you are in complete control of the ball which is why you see harden either slightly toss the ball while he steps or barely holds it with one hand where it can be considered not in control. Idk why “selling his soul” was the first thing you thought of but some players just know how to manipulate the rulebook. Kobe and DWade did tons of shit like that back in the day.

their skill is close for differant reasons, for example embiid has avered 25.5 career ppg while hakeem averaged 21 ppg, and embid has made 350 three pointers in six seasons! while hakeem made 25 in his ENTIRE career. btw saying hakeem could do the harden stepback is unreasonable because it didnt exist 20+ years ago

If ya'll don't know, Harden takes his first step before the ball lands in his hands, so technically, he is still dribbling when he takes that first step. Then once the ball lands in his hands, he takes another step without dribbling which is legal. If this explanation helped, pls drop a like.

The reason it's a travel is because Embiid grabbed the ball with both hands when he did the gather step. Harden gather steps with one hand on the ball then grabs with both hands on the last step

Harden's step back ain't a travel, he didn't immediately gather the ball at the initial step back. This is the reason why when some coaches teach the step back they tell playes not to gather the ball with two hands quickly, they tell to let it hang or float so you can have other options or counters in case the step back fails when defence reacts. Same for the pull up jumper. if you can float or hang the ball you really have the advantage because you can read the defender during the float or hang or cover more ground to have space. This is also a big the key for changing your jeight during dribbles from high to low and to your pace. This is the science behind it
