The parliament is the legislative body of the government. I think what you probably meant is that members of parliament elected, opposition or not, will not be able to influence policies. Which technically isn't true as well. I suggest you go ahead and read about "Parliament of Singapore" wikipedia page, rather extensive. You could supplement your knowledge by reading "Parliament" general page to understand how parliament works.

According to the parliament website, www.parliament.gov.sg/about-us/structure/system-of-government, "The Members of Parliament (MPs) are voted in at regular General Elections. The leader of the political party that secures the majority of seats in Parliament will be asked by the President to become the Prime Minister (PM)." Do note the word majority. It's pretty obvious which political party will secure majority of the seats and form government in this GE. So having few more opposition MPs elected into parliament does not matter but make parliament more balanced. We will then see policies decided by the ruling party being scrutinised with the interests of Singaporeans (with opposition representation) and not what the one ruling party thinks that will benefit Singapore. I think it's important to ask if we have strong views against certain policies, do we get to speak in parliament? So it's important to be voting for MPs who can represent us in parliament. :)

Regardless which party gets into parliament, Singapore still remain a totalitarian democracy nation. This representative democracy is bogus. We need to take democracy to it's pure form. A direct democracy - where the people holds the power. Ministers would make suggestions and the people makes the decisions.

No ... PAP need East Coast to form Government, PAP also need Aljunied and Hougang to form a *strong and stable* government.

The issue is... if you vote for too many opposition into parliament. Then who is going to form the cabinet. Think about it.

Hypothetically, even IF ALL the significant big names in opposition teams win (which is unlikely) PAP would still have 66% of the seats in parliament. PAP will still have their mandate. Putting the nation's well being at stake would be giving PAP the blank cheque.

Trump may not be the best, but that doesn't mean America would necessarily be better now if Trump didnt win. When you have nothing to lose anymore... "trying the other side" is definitely the next most viable option.. and this is the same route sg is going towards, which is very bad.

Yea, also those that salary is already low to begin with and trying to make ends meet and when their employers ask them to take no pay leave, their pay is even more less but they are still not eligible for the covid 19 support payments. Why? Because of the 30% reduction in salary for at least 3 months rule. If their salary reduction just misses by 1 or 2 % they are not eligible. Then how these people going to tide over? The covid 19 scheme seems more for people with high salary that has a reduction in salary, pretty unfair for the low wage workers

Singapores transport is already really reliable and cheap. I remembered pay C$3.25 for bus/train regardless and they frequently had delays of up to an hour. Put that in perspective. If transport is free, who is going to pay for the transport? Who is going to pay for the maintenance, and the operators?

The way to punish the 70% is to work hard and do better than the 70%. That way you can ask them that punishing question "Who did you vote for?"

Rising numbers of Malays supporting WP or any opposition is simple, we feel that Malay PAP MP mouths are tied when it comes to voice the Malay issues in the parliament.
