I watched this video about six times, then used it start/stop while installing. This made the installation go quick and easy with no mistakes or leaks!

Howdy from Sacramento. Pretty good instructions. I did not take off the door of my freezer though. It was a little tight getting to the back, but I installed the icemaker w no problems and I didn't have to worry about re-gapping the door. EZ PZ.

Great instructions. Installed mine yesterday. Took less than an hour and I had ice in the tray in about 4 hours.

Tip: remove the freezer basket when u removed the freezer door at the first step. That way u can get 2 hands in the freezer for installing the IM5D ice maker head.

Make sure you disconnect the shorter upper tube on LEFT for the wye connector. It comes out of the fridge (water filter) and back into the very top. If you use the one on the right, you will not have filtered water for the bottom icemaker...

I'm ready to order a second IM for the bottom freezer. My question is, there is already the dual fill valve and fill hose to the bottom freezer. My guess is it is ready for the IM and bucket. Correct?

our ge ice maker cubes never seperate they stay together in row of 6. Its been doing this since new. we have extended warranty and tech guy came out and said theres no adjustment screw for letting less water into maker. we have slate french door unit from 2013. we love the fridge its just ice maker top one a issue. please help.

I just got the French door fridge with the bottom ice maker already installed. It’s been 24 hours and still no ice? Any suggestions? I checked the tray and there’s no water in it

Why couldn't ge just have the Main part of this I stalled already and if u wanted it then buy the ice maker and snap inplace.

The valve has one brass input and three 1/4 od connections. What is connected to each of the 1/4" connections" The video does not show the third water line being connected.

The icemaker has been installed, however the "ice bottom" on the panel still will not appear. Any idea what specifically was done wrong with the installation?

I'm a bit confused... Is the IM5D the ONLY ice maker that this fridge has? Or... Are they trying to tell us that this is HOW to Install An ADDITIONAL (2nd) icemaker? In other words.... Does this fridge have it's own icemaker that you do NOT have to install and the IM5D is "the 2nd" icemaker?

yes the first icemaker is on the refrigerator door (very small ice reservoir). This is an optional second (larger) icemaker.

Check your door gaps. Could a freezer door gasket not sealing properly, and letting warm air in.

I have model number GFE28GYNJFS. I am 61 years old and not good at installing or fixing things like this. It looks complicated and I wish this had already come installed. My fridge already has a water line installed that makes ice for the upper ice maker. Does this mean I can skip to number 9 where is says to. I am confused as I am wondering if a second water line has to be installed for the bottom ice maker. Does this model already come with a dual water valve? Some of you may want to bash me for not knowing how to do this but I just had knee surgery 5 months ago and not sure if I can get down that low to install. Someone please help. I just moved to a new city and don't know of anyone that can help.

This refrigerator does not need a second water line to be connected to use the optional ice maker, so you can skip to step 9 in the video. If you have any other questions that the video or instructions are not clear about, you can reach out to us anytime. @@geappliances I was able to install this today but NO water is filling the ice cube trays. Yes it is ON. As I said I have a water line that is filling the top ice maker but the water line does NOT come out of the hole that is shown in the video. So i skipped to step 9. I called GE today with another problem and they scheduled service to come out but after I was off the phone I got the first issue fixed. So I called back and canceled the appt because I thought it was working now. I am so pissed right now because nothing ever goes right for me. I just don't understand why the water doesn't come out. Maybe if GE sold these refrigerators with both installed, I wouldn't be having problems right now. Please help with more then just a stupid video or instruction manual.

We know this must be frustrating and time-consuming. Furthermore, we also appreciate your feedback that both ice makers should come installed. We have shared your comments with our appropriate team. It is our goal to provide excellent products and services for our customers. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated. You mentioned you cancelled your service appointment because you thought your ice maker was working. When an ice maker is first installed, the icemaker mold must reach 16 degrees F before a cycle will begin. The icemaker will purge any air within the water supply line by cycling several times before filling with water. The first fill may only be a small amount of water, but the second fill cycle would fill over this. It may overfill slightly, but this is normal. When checking your ice maker today, can you see if it has filled with water? Is it making ice? Hi, Brent. We're sorry your icemaker is not yet filling with water. Thanks for getting back with us. Just to confirm, are you installing the correct ice maker kit, IM5D? If so, please ensure these are the instructions you are following: spklr.io/6056YtOo Additionally, ensure the ice maker is plugged in securely as addressed in step 11 in the above link. If the mold is still not filling with water, did you try the diagnostic test in the video in the prior link we sent you? You can also check to make sure the ice maker itself is working by following the below steps: If the icemaker mold is empty, you can manually pour about 4 ounces of water in the icemaker mold. Wait about 2 hours. If the icemaker has dropped ice cubes out from the mold, you know the icemaker itself is working. When performing the above test, be sure not to physically touch the mold with your hand. It can be very hot to the touch when it warms up to drop the cubes from the mold. Something doesnt make sense on this video. On the IMD5 kit I recieved, there is already a loose end hose plugged in to the black port ... which both the video and printed instructions says should be the line out to the new ice maker. The white port on the same valve, which both the instructions and video show the loose end hose pre-attached to, is open. Can someone clarify which goes where?

I had the EXACT same problem when putting mine in. I have done some research, and I just ended up switching the clear, plastic tube that was preattached to the unit with the tube that now comes out of the new ice maker. The tube from the new ice maker I am installing (the one for the bottom freezer) now goes into the black port. The clear, plastic tube that came preattached to the new unit now goes in the large port UNDER the black port, up the back of the fridge, and into the boTottom of the "Y" connector, which has the two, really short tubes connected to the top. To be honest, though, the new ice maker does not fill with water at all, so maybe the instructions are wrong. I'm wondering if I should switch them back and leave the clear, plastic tube where it was when I got it.

@amymiears9531 GE Service found the issue. I had the water lines correct. The tube to the new bottom ice maker DOES go into the black port (on the valve that has two ports). The free-ended pre-installed hose on the valve that attaches to the splitter connection SHOULD have been in the white port of that same valve (mine was incorrectly installed from the factory same as yours). Hook the hoses up as shown in the instructions/video. My bottom icemaker wasn't making ice because there was overspray from the factory insulation process that had gotten into the plug inside the freezer compartment. As a result, the ice maker was making just enough contact to show on the diagnostic screen as ok, but not enough to cycle the motor and initiate the dump/refill process. After removing the bits of foam from the plug, the ice maker fired right up and functioned properly. You might need a tech to come out and check yours.
