Gear Review: Condor Hudson Bay Survival Knife
Today we take a look at the Hudson bay from Condor. This is very large knife. That does a surprising job at a plethora of tasks.
But can it stand up to everything we put it through? Let's find out.

Traditionally the Hudson bay types of knives that were carried by trappers and frontiersman sat deeply in a sheath to help keep it very secure, after all in those days if you lost your knife it could be a fatal mistake!

The Hudson bay is intended more for firewood and shelter building. For fine work like feathering and for firework you need more of a bushcraft type knife. The Hudson Bay is an excellent chopper and batoning knife and is excellent for quartering large game for transport back to camp. I have had one for years and I haven't had any issue at all with the sheath. I don't know why you would need to "quick draw" a chopper anymore than you would a hatchet. I also find it very convenient being able to swivel it out of the way when sitting. Over all an excellent camp knife when used for its intended purpose. You don't fillet fish with an axe, why try to do fine work with a heavy chopper?

I wanted to purchase an New Old American Hickory Knife but then I found this little gem. It's like the same knife but next level.

I have found the easiest way to draw this knife, is to rotate the sheath till the blade is upside down, then just pull it out. Quick and easy. If your sheath is too tight spray some WD-40 into it and that will loosen it up. The sheath is a traditional style, that dates back to the late 1700's. I love mine. P.S. re-profile the edge so it is a tad sharper and your fine cutting work will go easier.

nice knife but the sheath is worse than useless , the whole is attached to by only one cheap rivet that WILL at some point sooner or later fail

I am actually thinking about getting one, but I am concerned it would be a little uncomfortable to carry around when hiking. Isn't it a bit heavy?
@Mywoodlandgear
@Mywoodlandgear 7 жыл бұрын
+Gioele Grenga The weight is surprisingly not noticable and I've carried on my hip for several hours at a time while hiking without issue. It's lighter than the schrade schf36.

Doubles as a SAW apparently. LoL i didnt see the teeth when he tried sawing through a 1" sapling but surely the hudson bay knife has a saw because that beard smacks of wilderness survival and tool expert.

I payed $48 for mine. Like 3 years ago. It's a heavy duty butcher knife. I think one could do just as well with Old Hickory knives at a cheaper prices. Personally, I never baton nor chop trees with a knife. Machete, maybe. Hawk or axe, definitely.

Ok use that knife for its real purpose, field dress An section a deer or an elk or moose or go fillet a giant catfish or alligator gar . If all that cannot be done then buy a nice 32 ounce steak an eat it using that knife to cut it up lol

It's a solid, sturdy sheathe and the blade wont come out until you pull it out. It works just fine for me, though you could always make a custom sheathe if you really hate it that much
