yes, or at least mutually exclusive... since guessing is fun (for me), i'd like to re-posit a guess and suggest they are high carbon steel internally, with a metallurgic coating that feels soft to touch, but has a stainless and anti chipping (not brittle) like quality. i'll' report back with the actual construction details if i can find them. edit: i was wrong again! "Durable surgical stainless steel (440C) and world-class manufacturing." they really work miracles with this steel, i can't help but feel that this isn't the full story and they are holding back a trade secret with the finish. the description doesn't do it justice. --its like magic. edit 2: oh boy! i found more that might be some FYI for both of us! while reading more in depth about this stainless steel they describe it thus, "Grade 440C stainless steel is a high carbon martensitic stainless steel. It has high strength, moderate corrosion resistance, and good hardness and wear resistance. Grade 440C is capable of attaining, after heat treatment, the highest strength, hardness and wear resistance of all the stainless alloys. No they aren’t. Stainless steel can be high carbon. These clippers are made from hardened 440C which can have up to 1.2% Carbon content with up to 18% chromium. It will rust eventually but it’s “stainless” and has higher carbon content than many grades of steel such as 1095 or spring steels like 5160.

@@squirts1440A is low grade, 440C is what many knife companies and leatherman use as an intermediate hardened steel before you get fancy with particle metallurgy.

@@Muscovy7 Yeah, I know all this. While my original comment is hyperbolic and I can concede that "opposite" was the wrong word choice and I should have said "carbon steel" instead of "high carbon." I didn't actually say anything about carbon content (percentage) in my original comment. I was talking about categories of steels. Nobody calls S110v a "carbon steel" regardless of it's carbon content (which is like 3%). There are always exceptions, outliers, and overlap when it comes to specific properties within the multitude of different steel compositions.
