So I am recovering from shoulder surgery, rotator cuff/multiple tendon tears, and I am looking for an improved filming backpack once I have made it through therapy. I have come to trust your insights on this line of work so I would like to get the straight up on the f-stop Tilopa. I am very concerned with comfort as my Tenba pack will no longer suffice. I have watched a couple of reviews on the Shimoda packs and fairly negative review on the Tilopa, based on comfort. So my question is, in your opinion is the f-stop comfortable for a 4-5 day trek into the mountains carrying film gear, a small tent and and a sleeping pad?

the rode wireless go II also record internally, so even when you have interferance/no signal to your camera, the internal audio is clear which is great! timecode-wise the tentacle are probably better, will watch you video about that, when i find it btw: love the YT, no bs, really informative!

I'm using the Tentacle Track-E as well, amazing. I've connected a small Rode Wireless Go transmitter to it so that I can monitor the audio that is being recorded. Just to ensure there is no clothing ruffle or wind noise during an interview. And invested in a Flowtech75 with Aktiv8 head, just so I can be a little less afraid of bullets. Thanks for sharing all your insights man. I love the way you condense a lot of information in a short about of time.

Maarten, do you mind elaborating on using the Track E with the Rode Wireless Go Transmitter a bit more? I have the Wireless Go II and looking to get the Tentacle kit. So do you have the Track-E plugged into the Wireless Go Transmitter, and still have the lav mic coming out of the Track-E, and then pop both devices into a character's pocket? I'm just not quite able to mentally picture the set-up you've got, but super curious!

The one in this video is too big for flying. If you’re going to be travelling a lot, there are smaller ones that are airline friendly but still charge a bunch of stuff. This one is the biggest they have I think!

Honestly, having only come to learn of the Tentacle Sync Track E recently, I'm SO excited to use them! Freeing up needed and limited mental headspace to not have to worry about the audio quite as much as usual....especially if I'm lone-wolfing it without an audio guy....so that I can instead focus on the scene and story, it really is a game-changer!

Thank you for the video. My contribution is: Always clear bags for all small loose accessories. Nothing thin and wears out but those thick coated clear plastic travel zippered bags usually used for cosmetics. And clear not fogged or obscured. A no-brainer benefit to see what your looking for before you unzip and otherwise go digging wasting time. Also lets you do a quick check that you got everything before departing.

Another solution for charging battery drones is look up for an aftermarket adapter that takes usb c. Those batteries from video looks like from dji air 2s/air 2. Original charger is big and needs AC outlet. With an small usb c adapter to battery you can charge them from any power bank or from a car.

Love your videos! Note that if you use a GoPro with it's digital stabilization together with a ND/180-deg-rule, you can get motion blur from camera shake (but a stable image). This can appear as "ghosting".

Great video, Luc. As MaartenFilms says, you should have some way to monitor the audio from each Tentacle E or you could be in trouble. A recorder that all your mics feed into solves this, plus can provide time code for each mic. With the right mic (Wireless Go II, DJI Mic, etc.) you can record a backup track in the transmitter to protect against loss/corruption of signal. Of course, as you know, now you have to carry/operate the recorder.

A sachtler flowtech tripod system is definitely on my wishlist. The quick setup is worth it especially in docu projects. Right now, I'm happy with my Manfrotto head. A big upgrade from my old jerky tripod head. Might look into getting the Tentacles!

DUDE! Beside the characters and the tought nature, what realy seperated Alone from the others survival shows for me, was the cinematography! I didnt know you worked on it, awesome! If you hate the gopro, you can test the Dji poket 2, the 20mm doens`t looks so actioncamish, d-log and gimbal stabilisation, even the mic is usable. Thanks for the great content🤙

That is full of good tips and advice, and we can all get something relevant from this. This new GoPro 11 has something radically different to it, and my curiosity is getting tickled. With a good comprehension of settings and limitations, a good set of ND filters (!), a few accessories, a good pair of memory cards... why not ? I have been looking at the tenticle system myself. the synced 32 bit float recording would really be a game changer. especially since time will make a few of my projects planned for next year much easier. Th one piece of gear that really made a big difference for me this year was a round wooden grip from CAMVATE for my FX3 to replace the more traditional grip I had been using on the left side of the camera. Having a round one allows me to hold it in a more natural positon for me and get better handheld footage. It was simple ergonomic change that has made a massive difference to me as my wrist used to hurt after shooting handheld for a while, now that doesn't happen anymore.

I've obviously made some research and I guess the thing that would stress me the most with the Track E is the impossibility of monitoring the sound.... 32bit is all good, but most of my audio issues when it comes to lav mics are cause by clothing rubbing against mic, mic falling off etc... Which is not fixable in post... Still looking for the best solo shooter audio set up :)

Hey Luc. I have a question about the f-stop bags. I’ve been looking at them for a long time. Have you used them on multi day trips where you’re carrying a tent, sleeping bag, stove, several days of food, etc.? I need a bag that can comfortably carry all of that gear plus my filmmaking gear in remote wilderness environments. I’ve just been making it work with my normal backpack but I’m at the point in my filmmaking career where I need an actual camera bag to carry all of the gear I need while being quickly accessible. Hey Jason, I guess it depends if you're going super light on one side or the other, like if you have really minimal camping gear or really minimal shooting gear you might be able to make it work with the Tilopa and a smaller ICU, but probably the Shinn is the best option. Your ICU choice is going to be the hardest part there, you'll have to figure out exactly what gear you need then pick the smallest ICU that will hold it all. That way you maximize room for your camping gear. At the end of the day it's still first and foremost for camera gear, but with the right config I think you could do some serious backcountry filming with the Shinn. Shop around though, and let me know if you find something better!

Yeah, it’s crazy cheap for what it is. All the videos for a while now have only used Audiio and nothing has ever been blocked, so I think you’ll be good there

yee good bag and good tripod make all the difference , i buy my lowerpro comutracker abaut 20 years a go still using it today can hold 2 big slr body 3-4 lents and 2 flash , and laptop , and got also a manfroto tripod and using it for 20 years , just got a video head abaut 6 years a go when i start sooting video

Enjoy a lot of your vids, but had to bail after recommending $6000 Sachtler sticks. Hell add another $1000 and get the dolly while your about it. I know a quality tripod / head rig will last a lifetime (If it were never taken outside into the real world), I have one indoor travel restricted queen that actually sees little action and about 1/2 dozen grab and go guys that all look as if they are the remaining survivors from some horrific malee that occured in a leprosy colony.

Fair enough! But I take this thing out into the real world all the time and it even survived three rounds from an assault rifle and kept working, so for me it's been worth it! Respect that it's outrageously expensive though and not for everyone!

@@LucForsyth My high end sticks are of a different brand and I'm quite sure they would be about the last thing that would afford ANY cover in a fire fight. Perhaps Sachtler should branch out into body armor as well! I'm a believer in the simple doctrine "run what you brung", a lot my shoots are of a nature that equipment will be damaged or destroyed and I just have to eat the expense. For this reason I usually rig up with Lumix GH5s & GH5 bodies. These have proven battle hardened and If I were to lose one it would just be a natural thinning of the herd. On the other hand, stupid expensive glass and contents of memory cards, if unable to retrieve them can invoke shit fits reminiscent of a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. Keep up the good vids ~ enjoy them.

its really strange how people in the other part of the planet promote things and they just use the part "i use it so you could " IF and i say if you dint have codes etc it would be fine but even if you got a small sponsorship by anyone then the whole thing is making no sense .... you also my friend did the same as most youtubers ....i thought you would be different but you became like the others ...its ok just when i was watching your first videos i believed what you said....that you do this to share your experience.... but when sponsorships and money change hands....that is over .... you probably wont get what i mean exaclty since life in us and canada is much different and something like that seems "normal" but not in all countries and economies my friend ....i will try to keep watching your videos but its really hard when i know that you did exactly the same as 40 'filmaker youtubers " did 5 years ago.... cheers and good day mate :(
