Another thing I want to add to the monitoring debate is that, having a good room is never gonna be a bad thing. But I do think it is not the be all n end all. Personally, I believe two things to be even more important. The first require a little time and eventually familiarity. Basically being family with the response of your chosen monitors- and I totally understand that you need to be able to spend a fair bit of time with them to get to this point. Second. Referencing. You see, if you have prereleased tracks that will obviously be already mastered, yu can play those tracks in any environment and they should still sound polished. Now if you can mimic ur reference tracks sound profile and/or frequency response in ur mix environment, then yu should be onto a decent mix or at least a good starting point or foundation. Music is a subjective thing and too many great songs/tracks have been recorded, mixed in some random setups with not much in the way of acoustic treatment or optimisation. Also, if yu have large monitors, I’d recommend picking up something smaller to augment the larger playback setup. My reasoning for this would be that you can use the large set up more for vibe and cranking up the volume, whilst yu use the small playback system for actual mixing and fine tuning- being careful not to crank them too much, so as not to couple to all the random surfaces in ur mix room. And- more importantly- limit unwanted reflections. Basically minimising those unwanted effects. But like I said, a nicely setup and treated mix room is never gonna be a bad thing. But a genuinely believe yu can get a killer mix regardless. 🤷🏾‍♂️🙏🏾🔈🔈🔈

I use Tannoy reveal 802 monitors as desktop speakers. They're great. Made me rethink my main setup.

For video editing/mixing and general purpose use (music, films) I have a pair of Yamaha HS8s which are very detailed in the mid and high end and complement the lack of low frequencies with a JBL 10'' subwoofer. I also have a pair of HS5s in another room and the JBLs 305 at my home. I believe the best setup for me is the HS8s with the subwoofer, although they are very bulky

what would be the best option ? i see a 130 difference on amazon with 3 yr warranty on the classic 5s is 295$ and on zzounds the rokit 5 g4s are 426$ w 3 years so a 130 difference i do want the flat response for better mixing but can tweak it with the screen and put flat in general these have been my dream monitors would love the input from anyone thanks

I have hs5 and Adma's I think the quality construction of the yamaha is very good, the sound of the T7V's have more low end, really happy with both I use them to get more perspective of the mix

Ive just purchased some vintage Yamaha MSP-10's. Best $400 dollar's ive ever spent in life. I've had most of those speakers except for the Tannoys and i must say, nothing right now can match those vintage Yamaha's. You probably have to get into the $1300 to $2000 range to compete respectfully. The Hs series Yamaha's are good but not even close to the MSP series.

Imo, you cant go wrong with any monitor speaker. Just learn it and how the music has to sound on it and there you go. Room treatment is a plus.

I was super impressed with the tannoys and do not regret buying them. They need some time to break in so give them a couple of days before judging them

All entry level speakers really, when you hear good speakers like focal you realize why they're so expensive , that being said you can produce good mixes on these you have to reference on many other sources anyway

You forgot to mention about amplification, what kind of amplification the speakers use? A/B or D amplification? Which one has toroidal transformer? about internal construction and quality components, which one are better and more solid, heavy speaker? Thanks

Well just treat your room and use a measurement mic and a DSP to straighten out the last of the kinks and you can get those speakers to sound almost exactly the same. Just make sure you have enough bass extension since some of those doesn't play quite low enough imo :)

Rather hard to pick five -- out of at least 450 studio monitor models being peddled today. Also, Tannoy is now a Behringer-owned company. For better or worse.

I use the Mackie HR824mkii. So far they have been amazing! Well worth the money.

I would say be careful with the KRK Rokits you see the yellow cones in big studio, but they are typically NOT the Rokits series speakers. The Rokits boost the low end response which a lot of listeners like, but for mixing can really screw you up. You mix on those hyped bass Rokits then take you mix somewhere else to listen to it you start wondering where the bass went. So if you mix on the Rokits you have factor in the low end your hearing isn't what things will sound like in the real world. The Yamahas HS series speakers I've had the HS5 and they just collect dust now. The HS7 amd HS8 sound excellent but the HS5's have are a really nasty midrange bump and can get very tiresome to listen to. Do yourself a favor and buy the HS7 or HS8 instead, if fact you want bass get the HS8 I like the low end on those. Adam T7V That is what I am currently using and I like the sound and stereo imaging very much. That ribbon tweeter gives you very natural sounding highs and easy on the ears. I can listen to the Adam's all day long without getting ear fatigue. Any monitors you get will color the sound some so you have to learn what your listening on so you can understand what your hearing in relation to the typical speakers, earbuds, or headphone your will be heard on.

My friend had an old set of Tannoy dual concentric speakers (passive driven) which blew me away with the awesome sound & amount bass that cam out for such a small cab. So took a chance & bought the Tannoy Gold 8. However these Chinese manufactured speakers did not impress at all & are no way as good as the UK/European ones that they used to make. Style wise driver looks great, yet IMO ruined with those tacky looking gloss ports.. I'm sending them back, but now I'm wondering what to replace them with.

is it worth it to pay the extra for the Yamaha over the KRK?

Helppp! My HS5 as making a very high pitched sound as soon as I turn them on and I've tried everything. It does that even when it's not plugged to the interface or if absolutely nothing is on next to it (my setup is just the monitors and a scarlet 18i8 and it does that even when everything is off, the internet modem is far away as well as other electronics), when it is just simply plugged with the power cable. I've tried changing plugs but yeah it makes this noise as soon as I turn it on, just with the power cable plugged into it. What could that be??

After watching a half an hour video, I have no idea which speakers sound good. Just giving a bunch of specs barely does anything for me. if you just played each set of speakers going from one to the other playing a few different types of music. Rock, funk, by the end of the video I would have an idea of which set of speakers I liked the sound of. because the quality of the sound is 95% of what is important to me.

absolutely forget the rokit g4 range. cannot handle deep bass at 3/4 max volume. aboslute shit. woofer waffle. not good really. these are 55watts so maybe the bigger daddy versions can? anyone know if the bigger rokits can handle sub sonic bass guitars ? AND i absolutelty find having an EQ on speakers that are designed to be true to source. yes you can play a setlist to a house party and add bass but surely thre bass on the song itself can be enough?thats why the songs are finalised as u hear them

Mre like a ,low end, speaker list but for beginners def not bad. You need to start at some point ;-). I wouldnt choose any of them. I used Neumannˋs in the past KH310, 120 and after a short ,,break,, with Unity Audio SuperRock Monitors (small company from the uk) i‘m back at neumann. Love the sound and also their DSP / MA1 System. KH150 with 2x KH750 subs and a CraneSong dac as Pre Amp

Obviously the answer is get the best genelecs you can afford.

I have Tannoy System 10 DMT II‘s, the new Behringer Tannoy‘s just don’t live up to the legendary reputation of the real old Tannoy Gold/Red/DMT‘s, not even close….plastic instead of paper pulp….

invest in sonarworks correction software before you spend money on expensive monitors ,it made my monitors 100% more accurate, i couldnt hear any low end out of my HS8s in my treated room. Yes properly treated with rockwool not foam

I seriously doubt the sensitivity rating of these sub zero speakers. Drivers delivering that high ratings look different, Woofer and Tweeter. You can't get around physics. Drivers reaching lower then normal frequency levels for the enclosure size, only can achieve this by low sensitivity drivers, period. For the small sub zero, I guess, you'll be lucky if you get 85db. And for the bigger one, come on, 95dB is already PA level, that's ridiculous. But I guess, you know all that yourself.

On the high end, humans can't hear anything above 20Khz. Anything above 20Khz is pretty much in the dog whistle range of frequencies.
