The chain on my Yamaha FZ-07 was going from tight to loose and loose to tight while going down the road or spinning the rear tire on a stand. It was driving my crazy. I thought maybe my rear sprocket got bent because my chain was too tight at one time. You have to be sure the flat sides on the head of the axle bolt are down in the recess . If it spins your axle will be loose and move. I had 0.010 run out on the sprocket. I installed a new rear sprocket. I also took two links out of the chain as I had ran out of adjustment travel. It still had the same tight and loose issue with a new Sprocket. I have since replaced the Original chain with 19,000 miles on it with a new chain. Now there is no more loose and tight situation. The chain pins were worn considerably and were dry .. the original grease was long gone. Since the axle alignment marks are so lame on the FZ-07 This Laser might help me a lot. Looks like your Suzuki has a better chain adjustment system. I did purchase a motion Pro chain slack tool from you guys. I don't think it will really be very helpful. I have never used it and never took it out of the packaging. Maybe I can return it and trade it towards this laser tool?
@sportbiketrackgear
@sportbiketrackgear 2 ай бұрын
The slack setter is a nice tool that helps you maintain a proper amount of chain slack which would prevent the situation you just described. With a chain I would prefer to see it a little to the loose side than too tight. When you have a chain and sprocket set on the bike with mileage on it like you noted you should always replace the chain and sprockets as a set. - Van

They are machined rods with alignment cones similar to what you would see used on a wheel balancer. You can slide the rods through the axles and or swingarm pivot to take measurements. - Van

I have quite a bit of wiggle in my front end on my '95 cbr1000f. Started when i installed my superbike kit and at the same time chamged out my chain 'n sprockets. I made aluminium spacers for the front fork so the forks are at the exact same hight relative to eachother and are as high as they were with the clipons on, and i alighned them, the front axle and the ballhead multiple times with the push-it-down-when-all-is-loose-method. Wobble is still there. I'm looking at the rear axle next. Hope that fixes some cornering instability. Could a badly balanced front wheel cause the left-to-right wobble aswell?
@meoffjack
@meoffjack 2 ай бұрын
Have you checked your wheel bearings? Are the spacers on the front wheel correctly installed? Badly balanced wheel is either not noticable you get up and down kicks in your handle bars. "Started when i installed my superbike kit". That sounds like not correctly installed... Are the forks correctly aligned inside the triple clamps? Same height? If you don't know what you are doing... get professional help.
@acvn-hg9gy
@acvn-hg9gy 2 ай бұрын
@@meoffjack the forks are at the same hight in the triple clamps and aligned. Bearings are good, original wheel spacers are used and in the right place. Forks have new oli, bushings, seals and springs. All bolts are at the right torque spec. Steering head bearings have no noticable play. Brakes are clean and free floating, the wobble is only at decell. Just bought a laser aligner, rear wheel is perfectly centered and chain tension is at factory spec. I'm selling the bike eitherway, i'll tell all of this to the new owner.

Something like this would be difficult to diagnose via KZfaq comments. I would start with checking all of the wear items such as bushings, wheel bearings, steering head bearings, etc... Odds are you will find something out of spec. - Van

Tell you a short story: Original chain, steel sprockets and chain wheels last for 30.0000-40.000km on my bikes. Aligned by eye with the motorcycle's marks on the rear axle tensioners. Sport bike aluminium sprockets for racing last 3.000-4.000km on my bike for racing purposes. This Alignment Tool is a waste of money. Even in semi professional racing teams in the IDM this tool is not used because it is unnessecary! You won't get much more out of your drive train with this tool. Pretty much snake oil stuff.
@sportbiketrackgear
@sportbiketrackgear 2 ай бұрын
Reply to your short story from someone who builds motorcycles that have won professional races: If you do not know what you are talking about best not to leave misleading comments. While the marks on the swingarm are a place to start a tool like this will get you a better result. Having the rear axle perfectly aligned reduces friction which will in turn make the parts last longer and add some level of performance. These are facts. - Van

@@sportbiketrackgear I've worked for a Suzuki Race Team in German IDM (Internationale Deutsche Motorradmeisterschaft) and in a Ducati EWC Endurance World Championship Racing Team. Nobody used this tool. It's not necessary. We have rebuilt hundreds of Suzuki race bikes especially Suzuki GSX-R1000R, Suzuki GSX-R600 and Ducati Panigales to IDM and EWC racing standards for professional racing and private use. This tool will do nothing. What we have done is engine and ECU tuning to gain more power. Those lasers are good for the mind, but nothing else.

Are you supposed to rotate the device back and forth like that? I would think doing that could cause it to move and give a false reading. Probably more accurate if you rotate the wheel back and forth while the laser stays stationary.

@mikeskidmore6754 2 ай бұрын
How do you rotate the wheel when the laser is clamed to the Sprocket..
@sportbiketrackgear
@sportbiketrackgear 2 ай бұрын
Moving it back and forth moves the laser along the length of the chain giving you an idea of what it looks like close to the rear sprocket, middle of the chain and of course up at the countershaft sprocket. As long as the rear sprocket is flat there will be no issues. - Van
