Lore? LORE? Get ready for a serious "rabbit hole". During the Pendulum Wars, as the Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG) and the Union of Independent Republics (UIR) were fighting over the various Imulsion production facilities, Adam Fenix (who was once a Gear in the COG, fighting said war) returned back to Jacinto to conduct weapons research and development (The Hammer of Dawn) to end the war (which, by the time Marcus joined, the Pendulum Wars was reaching its 80th Year). What was not known, except to a few before Prescott's time (Chairman Prescott), save Adam and others of the Research Team, a scientist by the name of Samson Niles, with an immensely well funded research team founds New Hope Research Facility (yet covers it up as a logging company) to better research the continually growing affects of Rust Lung (Imulsion Exposure). In Niles' research, he finds that the Imulsion is mutating the children of the miners infected with Rust Lung, and seeing these anomalies, refocused his research from curing, to finding a mutation that can successfully advance Humankind to the next evolutionary state of existence. In comes Myrrah. A young girl exposed to this new process of evolution through science and research and development, and she is the ONLY individual showing no negative signs of degrading mutation. In fact, she's growing faster than a regular human, reaching an adult body in a much shorter period of time (to which, she does have a child, Reyna, who then begets Kait). Myrrah becomes queen of the Locust Horde, who were ALSO created by Samson Niles, the perfect evolutionary being above the Human. The reason is explained in Gears 5, Reyna's disappearance (thanks to the father escaping after subsequently disagreeing with Niles' scientific research and his methods), sets Myrrah off on a war path, revolting at the Research Facilities and going underground, leading the Locust with her. Now reach to just before Emergence Day, Adam is trying to find a way to cure the Imulsion sickness afflicting the Locust, turning them lambent. Begging for more time, he tries to urge Myrrah to not conduct the planetary assault on Humanity. Unfortunately, Myrrah no longer has any more time, Adam cannot seem to find a cure, she launches Emergence day, not a few years after the end of the Pendulum Wars. Humanity is fighting for their life, but the Locust are everywhere, and despite attempts to evacuate citizens from the multitude of cities across the COG nation, they're being slaughtered, their military resources spreading thinner and thinner without an end in sight, and the Locust keep pouring forth without end. Chairman Prescott, Adam Fenix, and Colonel Hoffman, agree together to launch the Hammer of Dawn en mass and destroy all major cities overrun by the Locust, regardless of civilian population presence. It is successfully deployed, but the Locust are left unharmed for the most part, and now the war is a series of Gears fighting multitudes of emergence holes, trying to stem the tide of Locusts advancing further towards Jacinto, the last refuge of the COG and its human remnant. Gears of War takes place 15 years after Emergence Day. Gears of War 2 takes place 6 months after the events of Gears of War. Gears of War 3 a year after the events of Gears of War 2. Gears of War 4 25 years after the events of Gears of War 3. And Gears 5 within six months to one year after the events of Gears 4. The original trilogy was, essentially, that Imulsion was the reason, but not for the ends that many presumed. Imulsion was infecting and killing Locust. Had imulsion not existed in the first place, many of the issues we see from Gears of War would not have existed in the first place. From the 80 year Pendulum Wars to the Locust-Human War, and the subsequent Lambency Pandemic plaguing the planet. Gears 4 and Gears 5 take a different approach in that, while Myrrah is dead, she had offspring, and through Reyna is reviving the Locust horde as a new species called "Swarm". Kait, of course, wants nothing to do with it and finds the reasons behind the Locust, the Swarm, the Wars, Imulsion, etc and so forth... A much deeper lore exposition in Gears 5.

Oh God I remember the first Berserker encounter scaring the shit out of me as a kid. Loved the Gears series, though I didn't play 4-5. My best memories of the games were Gears 2 Horde matches on Xbox Live and picking up my teammates' golden lancers when they died. Hope we get Gears 2-3 remastered on PC some day. Would love to replay them.

Gears 1-3 are certified 10/10 games in my book. They're some of my favorite scifi stories/ games of all time.

I recently played through the main 3 games on Insane with my friend. We had already beated OG GOW1 on insane together before. But the Remaster broke us. The stupid cut content they readded into the game was so broken and truly not tested. There is one scene where you have to split up. This was the worst since either of us dying meant we have to restart the chapter. We stopped playing for some months and came back and finished it. Gears of War 3 was the funnest and with Active Reload modifiers it made the game super easy. We got to Gears of War 4 and all of our enthusiasm just stopped. Was not fun and didn't feel like Gears of War. Gears 5 completely killed the run for us. One of the most souless and boring experiences out there.

I used to use the chainsaw glitch to wall break in GoW 2. I would go in campaign and get into some of the battles happening in the background. Surprisingly the enemy npcs could shoot you and you could use the cover outside the map. I should've documented what i found tbh since no one did it on youtube

I played GOW 1, 2, 3, Judgement, 4 and Remastered. I replayed 1, 2 and 3 religiously for obvious reasons.

Had this gem in the aluminum box edition. Read the little lore book, beat the campaign, played the crap outta multiplayer. I’d put GOW up there with Halo and COD as far as childhood classics go.

Is the PC port really that bad? I was thinking that since it's a pretty old game maybe my toaster could handle the PC version but I guess not...

I recently bought a Series S, partially just because all of the Gears games are on there and FPS boosted. I havent played 2 & 3 in a decade, still amazing games. Never played Judgement and some of it was good, mostly not.
