Brent said something halfway thru the vid, that IMO is the most vital piece to the whole clinic. “After playing guitar your whole life, you don’t want to be up front in the music, you want to hide your guitar” he then went on about how he thinks of playing like “creating a mood” and to me this is my whole love for guitar I LOVE to create a tangible sometimes (dark) atmosphere man... that’s what it is all about

There was a terrible tone coming out of that amp before they cleaned it up. This is the most straightforward I've ever seen Brent Hinds in a public space on video and it was somewhat enlightening and entertaining. Love his guitar playing.

Not every host or interviewer can be like Sean Evans' caliber. This was tense and super awkward at times, but Brent is the shit. Just need people who can keep up with his crazy.

I want someone to transcribe what he plays here and map it to key scales. Everything be plays fits together tonaly, but it's constantly shifting and folding, never static. It's like what Alan holdsworth talks about in theory, but what Brent plays actually sounds like music.
@TheGuitarifier3 жыл бұрын
If you're implying that Holdsworth "doesn't sound like music" then you're a fucking idiot who needs to stop critiquing guitar players entirely.

Brent is a genius, I think in his own way he is just so humble that his humility comes out as self-deprecating and sarcastic humor, he knows how phenomenal he is, yet he doesn’t brag about it, as far as the scale/key idk, but I will tell you Mastodon uses A BUNCH of natural harmonics, like opens, etc. they harmonize a lot with the open notes if you check tabs on any random song of theirs you will see a lot. Hope that helps

There's a lot more going on here that many don't realize. It isn't Brent's job to get things setup to conduct a clinic. Had it been so, you'd have seen a more productive session here. Instead they were just keeping it in between the ditches. Who gives a shit if he's had a few? Not his fault if the coordinators don't coordinate

I like the part he plays starting around 8:15 that's a legit mastadon song...he's a genius on guitar...probably not many people would recognize it from this performance because there's lots o slop, etc, he wings it a lot in this,...some of it, honestly, not my favorite, but he's fearless with his playing...and he and the whole band will make you laugh your ass off...

doesn't bode well when neither an Orange ambassador or PR guy can get a good tone out of their amps. ooops! Surprised that BH let this guy set his amp up for him but none the less I can feel Orange Ade cringing from here when he tells him to turn the gain off after repeated efforts to get a decent tone, even a second SG doesn't solve the problem. PR nightmare, I doubt he'll be doing any more clinics for them. Stick to using their cabs Brent.

I grew up right down the road from him. One of my best friends in school graduated with him. Seems like any big party with the people from pelham there'd be this ugly dude In tye dye would have all the girls sitting around him watching him play guitar. Fun times but he had all the girls. Now mastodons one of my favorite bands. But they're no neurosis. Also my favorite since 95.

I was there and met him at the meet n greet. Awkwardness is the mastodon way. Have you seen any of their behind the scenes videos? Troy, Bill, Brann, and Brent are all awkward AF its hilarious.

It's Brent Hinds lmao, just who he is. He's doing alot better since he got married sobriety - wise tho. Genuine interviews from him are pretty rare to come by tho, so regardless of if this was supposed to be a gear clinic it's nice to hear him open up with real perspective and hear some life stories cause that never happens. Plus we all already know Orange makes great amps, and that Brent can play. Bill has some great gear interviews you could watch; he usually goes over his gear and Brents.
