Really stupid questions*, but if I may: i) Has anyone shredded tires, through a system not unlike rock crushing, where not only the metal is removed, but anything not initially shredded fine enough is sifted, then passed through a secondary shredder, so the final product is 0.5mm ± 0.1mm. That is then mixed with hot asphalt to an appropriate proportion, especially if that asphalt is already a mix of fresh, and recycled from grinders ... if yes, what were the results ...? ii) They're plenty of methods of recycling all manner of mixed plastic waste, often using one consisting of shredding; heating until full melting point; adding a proportional amount of sand, whilst the former is still in a semi-molten state; then forming what comes out, sometimes under a hot, hydraulic, press, into a specific mold, either as replacement for concrete pavers, or as roofing tiles. My thought is, as sand and ground up glass are not too far apart, chemically speaking, why not grind up recycled glass to the same consistency as sand (meaning all the various coloured glass would become homogeneous), then add that to the molten plastic, abet meaning possibly using temperatures as high as 1,500 - 2,000⁰C to achieve a total molten state. Yes, one has to consider the off-gassing products, and how to process the fumes, instead of just venting to atmosphere, and how much of that off-gas is decomposed by the heat involved. But I doubt it will be that hard to come up with a solution. In fact, I may have one in mind ... Also, there are concerns about durability, especially under sustained sunlight, physical loading, and so forth, resulting in chemical and physical breakdown into microplastics. My thought is the glass-plastic matrix can act as a 'core', before being surrounded by a just-thick-enough (10mm ± 0.1mm), say, concrete, shell. Yes, that process will require additional materials, but not nearly enough as in that example, concrete paving, is made up of; in other words, mixing the durability of concrete, but with possibly upto 50% less, unrecycled, materials ... [*= I long have a hypothesis that "the only stupid question there is, is the one you never ask." ... No matter how dumb you feel for asking, imho, it's better to ask, and know, than pretend you know, then get into a whole heap of trouble because of that ignorance ... ]
