This vid has been really reassuring for me. For example, I have a maternal 5th cousin with 43cM and a maternal 3rd cousin with 41cm both of whom I know from paper research precisely where they fit into my tree. Because the size of the DNA match was so similar, I was doubting my findings. To know that there are such large overlap areas explains quite a number of anomalous results I've found among the DNA matches I've identified and placed in my tree. The chart you put up on screen about the 10 minute mark was very enlightening. While I'm commenting, I'd like to say how useful I find most of your tutorials. I appreciate them very much and often recommend them to contacts. Thank you from Scotland.

ok so now im lost. At the top i checkthe the mark X which i was told is to see fathers side? So my top 2 results show #1 Gen 99 with a CM of 26.8 #2 Gen 6.19 with a CM of 24.6 Doesnt this mean i share more DNA with Person #1 Yet they are WAY down the line as being related.. and #2 would be my Great x4 Grandparent?

GEDmatch Genesis DNA file diagnostic utility. Utility show Token and SlimToken. Can you explain Token and SlimToken in you video?

Question... What does GEN showing 0.5 mean? I have lots of them. Also, half cousins get real confusing when you have a grandparent that was adopted at 8 days old. Both bio parents have been identified through DNA research, but they never married.

Do you know who the 0.5 GEN people are? That indicates a very close relationship.

I always try to use the gen column along with verified trees. It's the only way to do it.

I have an ahead of time question. How useful is the GEN column in endogamous situations? I am specifically dealing with Melungeon ancestors and have really wondered if the GEN column is off any relevance in that situation?
@FamilyHistoryFanatics

As with most tools with endogamy, many of the tools don't work as well. So sorry.

This is called an explanation? It's filled with some identification, but no explanation at all.

So, what's your follow-up question. Complaining without asking follow up questions can help neither your or I improve your understanding.
