??? You must be 20 yrs old or younger.. Dave excels on drums. He is definitely not a guitarist. Although he's ok at guitar and songwriting, his talent really shows in his drum playing. He is exceptional when given a couple wooden sticks. The only reason he's been able to thrive is because he was in Nirvana and is actually ok at songwriter power chord type stuff. But in reality if he was never in Nirvana he would be thrown in with the millions of dudes trying to make music with their simple power chord progressions and not be taken seriously. I love Dave and Nirvana and I always will. But I truly believe this. Foo Fighters were good for their first 2 albums when Dave still had passionate things to say. Then the fame and all that shit just dissolved him into another Axl type rockstar. I think Kurt would be disgusted. But he knew where things were going and decided to check out early.
@beemelonhead14 жыл бұрын
Or maybe you meant the comment to say it's refreshing to see Dave where he belongs. I agree.

The irony of people criticizing grunge legends for not sounding "good enough" while covering the epitome of grunge from the era they helped create. Grunge music was anti clean/perfect playing and singing at its core. It was a revolt against the over polished music of the 80's. This was something Kurt would have appreciated.

The thing I find missing from the vocals isn't the polish, but the intensity Kurt brought. I don't hate the covers but when you compare them to Kurt live they fall short. I know Nirvana was hit or miss live but still. I think it highlights how amazing Kurt was instead of disparaging the covers.

Pretty sure that Kurt would have loved Kim's singing here, and the fact that they were friends makes this meaningful to watch. Sonic Youth helped Nirvana get their first big break with DGC and took them out on tour. They were kindred spirits. Kim clearly channelled Kurt's weirder, confrontational side that can be heard on songs like Negative Creep, Beeswax, Hairspray Queen and Tourette's. If you don't appreciate this, you really don't get Nirvana.

Okay for all of you complaining about their choice of singers, let me put you straight: Joan Jett - Punk legend, not only was she part of the Runaways and did she have a very prolific solo career but she's also the reason why Pat is on stage there, he and Darby Crash started the Germs because of the Runaways. They also had Joan Jett produce their album which is regarded one of the seminal American hardcore albums of all times. Kim Gordon - Was the one who brought Nirvana to attention of the DGC label, she also took Nirvana on tour to support her own band Sonic Youth, who as Kurt admitted was his favorite band. She and Kurt were also close friends and she produced Hole's album "Pretty on the inside" and appeared in the Video for "Doll parts" as a tribute to Kurt Annie Clarke - Is among the new wave of Geek rockers. having toured with David Byrne of the talking heads, which again was a band Kurt was heavily into. Lorde - Much like Annie Clarke, Lorde is from the new wave of geek rock, don't forget that Kurt encouraged the geek crowd: the wallflowers, the nerds, the ones who were bullied in school. Stop the bullshit here, Kurt would have LOVED this show and what the ladies did in their performances.

I usually don't leave comments or reply to comments... BUT REALLY?! You think Kurt would disapprove of these performances because they didn't sound like the old Nirvana? I think he would have been honored. For starters, Dave just said in the video that Nirvana had days where they would sound like the greatest band, and days where they sounded like shit. These women captured that. And Kurt being the feminist that he was would have loved all the off-key, quirky, crazy, uniqueness all these women brought to the stage. I thought it was perfect for being un-perfect. And that's all the hostility I will bring to this conversation, so don't bother.

I can't believe I'm just seeing this now! I'm so glad all these amazing, strong, talented women came together to do this. I have chills and just feelings that I can't explain. To anyone with negativity, don't watch, because you obviously don't know what Kurt would have been into or dug. My only complaint is I wish there were more performances. Thank you for being involved, thank you for sharing. New Artists, and our favorites, may we never forget this feeling.

anyone who doesnt enjoy the female performances in this tribute doesnt understand nirvana at all. kurt was about openness and acceptance and self expression, not mimicking his talent or sounding like an american idol winner. this tribute is great. its silly and tragic, ridiculous, how all these negative comments show how nobody understood kurt at all. which we all know was very difficult for him.

speaking for dead man u didnt know personally... shouldnt do that. kurt cobain sounded good... joan jet soubs like she smoked a pack too many. second chick had energy,bout it. blonde woman went through the motions and lorde did what she does,weird movements and adding deep masculine tones to her female voice naturally without a computer. amazing and accomplished woman just singing the wrong songs for their vocal abilities. dont claim to know what a dead man you didnt know personally would think or feel at an age of wisdom he deprived us all of. pull down your skirt,your ignorancecis showing.

Watching others trying to fill Kurt's shoes only makes one realize just how much energy his voice added to Nirvanas music and how one dimensional it leaves the band sound without him.

All these people complaining about the performances, even though Kurt would have been probably loving it all. I mean Joan Jett? Kim Gordon? These women were icons to Kurt (and really any punk fans). Yeah the choice of Lorde is maybe a bit odd, but still it feels in keeping with what they were trying to do.
@tickledpixel93014 жыл бұрын
Back in the day I'd agree... today, 25 years later? Everyone has a use by date and everyone but Lorde has long passed theirs. Though Lorde shouldn't have ever been in the mix anyway.

Does anybody in this comment section and thread who's bitching about the female singers, actually remember what Kurt Cobain sounded like live? He didn't sing his songs all pretty, he sang his songs in a very raw and punk way, with a bit of an exception on the MTV unplugged. These singer/musicians are the real deal.

Dude seeing all of these entitled fans trying to speak for Kurt is so hilarious. If you dislike it you dislike it. What’s the point in trying to bring Kurt into it to justify or validate your own opinion? It shouldn’t matter whether Kurt would have loved or hated it. Quit being brainless followers and trying to go along with what you think Kurt would. Dislike it because you genuinely dislike it, and like it because you genuinely like it. Regardless of what Kurt would have thought about it. Have some independent thought. Those of you who care about what Kurt would have had to say truly didn’t understand nirvana and what it stood for and represented. Real fans wouldn’t give two craps what he thought cause they weren’t blind followers like most of mainstream media listeners. His whole stick was “do whatever you want, wear whatever you want, play whatever you want, fuck what anyone else thinks” With that said, I genuinely liked some of the singers, and others not so much but that’s ok. Maybe Kurt would have agreed, maybe he would have disagreed. I genuinely don’t care what he would have thought because I SHOULDNT care man

Exactly man, some of these guys have no real clue what they are talking about. They disliked it because it was different. That is the most Kurt Cobain thing they have done since he was still alive. They went against what people like to prove a point. I think it was a great tribute for a great artist, father and man that is no longer with us. Peace to you my brother.

Nirvana fans are some of the most hypocritical people ever, and Im a fan too. What happened to the "we won't speak for anyone, we should not give a f*ck to anyone, we do what we want" but they are anything but that. "Kurt would hate this, Kurt would be laughing if he saw this", really? How tf you know? Are you Jesus my guy? Yes, these singers aren't Kurt because that is exactly the point, no one is Kurt Cobain, and anyone covering Nirvana should know that. This tribute is about Dave and Krist and a few other lucky people who AREN'T KURT got to play Nirvana's songs dedicated to him. Would Kurt hate this or love this? Who tf knows. If u have something to say, at least have THE BALLS to say it came from ur mind and not from "Kurt". "Kurt would hate this" my ass just say its YOU who hate it.
