The mystery of who created the character Geedis and the Land of Ta sticker sheet has been solved. With thousands of people from across Reddit, KZfaq and Twitter on the case, the search came to a head when The Framingham History Center and Endless Thread podcast, while investing the story through a number of former Dennison employees, discovered that he was originally drawn by Sam Petrucci, who you might know as the creator of the original GI Joe artwork.

Yeah. I’m so glad he’s finally gotten proper recognition. I was really interested in this mystery back when I was active on Reddit. Although I don’t know why the stickers and pins were made. I thought they were part of a planned fantasy TV show that was piggybacking on the craze of D&D during that period which never made it past the storyboard stage. Oh well at least the artist got proper credit.

I love this sort of mysteries. Nothing nefarious about it, no weird conspiracy theories, no-one making it up for attention, just a weird, fascinating topic that captures people's imagination and breathes new life into an old work. Plus, Petrucci's daughter finding his old sketches that likely hadn't been seen by anybody in years, is kind of heartwarming. And as an (amateur) artist myself, I can't help but feel inspired by a work of art, no matter how obscure, surviving its creator.

This is one of the things the Internet does wrong. There are around 20,000 small towns in America, and they all have local history. If every Redditor were to support their local community, it would do more good for the world than piling on a meme and giving way too much money to one random small town.

I wish I'd known about this search. I had a pen-friend obsession in my early teens and one of them from the US sent me full sheets of both Land of Ta and Women of Ta. This was in 1991. My pen friend was older than me and into D&D, Sci Fi, Fantasy like myself, I think 20 years old, who was the youngest of 4 brothers. They all had the same interests and he got the stickers from one of them. My Dad was where I got my passion for Sci Fi etc and he recognised the art style of the stickers. He actually had books with covers that were very similar. I'll have to check but I might have the books since he passed away in 2014. I suspect they were drawn by this Sam chap. Unfortunately I was a dumb 12 y/o and stuck the stickers on Kerrang! posters in my room, and they were thrown away a few years later. I'm going to look into The Women of Ta stickers as well, as again Dad had Sci Fi books from the late 60's right through to the 90's at that time. We might have some luck finding the illustrator that way.

I'm a child of the 70s/80s and I know I have seen the Land if Ta stickers. Stickers were hugely popular in elementary school, we had photo albums full of them and we'd trade them so I assume that's where I saw them. I grew up in Pennsylvania, so it's not inconceivable that they would have made it to PA from New England. Thanks for the update!!

ThuggaThuggaBaby I understand RPing as fictional characters. I am guilty of doing it too. But real life people? I know, they are technically "characters" in a way but the wrestling personas are tied to a specific person.

At least we know who *made* The Land of Ta and Geedis now, but the fact that we still don’t know who made the spin-off sequel sticker set with women, or why there was even pins of Geedis to begin with despite not being made by either of the two companies or the artist himself, still remains to be a huge mystery that still, as of now, remains lost to time. This rabbit hole just keeps getting deeper the more we dig my friends...

I 100% remember buying these from Walgreens in the late 80s. I remember Walgreens having tons of unliscenced toys/stickers/coloring books at the time, similar to a dollar store now days only on display in shelf mounted metal baskets. I recently found some of the toys I had as a kid while digging for them and remember getting these as well at Walgreens. It would have been around 88'-90' since we moved to another part of the state at the time and we wouldn't have been to that Walgreens after that. So many weird crappy toys come to mind now, mostly cheap hologram plastic toys. So glad to have the nostalgia flood come back. Love this channel/series!

You might want to look into the legend of the Star Jotun Troll. This is a Monster In My Pocket toy. The packaging said something like find a Jotun Troll with a star on it and redeem it for like 20 other figures. For like 30 years the collecting community never saw one. Was not even sure it existed. Then one surfaces. The guy sells it for like a thousand dollars to the top collector. Some doubted it's authenticity. Then another finally surfaces. This one looks way different and, well, real. Turns out the first one was counterfeit of course. At the time no one knew what a legit one actually looked like, so this guy was able to make one, fool the top collector, scam some money, then ghost.

I can almost certainly swear that I had a Geedis sticker on a bookshelf I had as kid (along with some of the the other Land of Ta characters and the spaceships from the previous video, as well as some old stickers of ghouls driving hot rods. I later added things like Garbage Pail Kids or whatever stickers I could find). I was born in 1979 and one of my earliest memories is of a quarter machine in the local grocery store that was shaped like a barn. There was a chicken inside. When you put a quarter in and turned the knob, the chicken would cluck and move around then "lay" a plastic egg for you to retrieve. I had to get one everytime we went. That's where the majority of my sticker collection came from. Not sure if I'm just putting this all together from what was in the videos, but I'm almost positive that these videos have pieced together my memories and helped me realize why the image of Geedis sent such a rush of nostalgia through me when I saw it.

I think I got it!! The stickers of that character happened to have gotten very popular in a local area, but only for a year or two as the DnD craze got less popular. It explains everything!! It wouldn't have been around long enough for the kids of time to now remember it and the adults of the time probably wouldn't remember either, or wouldn't be around to tell us about it. "Rolling in the Geedis" coming from the large amount of money made off of the the popularity of the character. The pin then, would likely have been made to further capitalize on the character, probably by a different manufacturer that they'd commissioned. This would also explain why no other land of ta character pins have been seen, and why no one at the company remembers them producing pins at all!!
