Sh4 The room is my favorite, I played this game when I was 8 years old and it scared the crap out of me. This game still terrifies me after almost 20 years lol. I also love sh2, it's a very close second

One thing I like about Homecoming is that the narrative feels similar to 2 in that the monsters are based on that of the player's personal demons and both protagonists ended up killing the people they loved either on purpose or an accident with them eventually overcoming those problems and finding closure in their lives.

I'm so happy you gave Downpour a moment of appreciation because it's not as bad as most people say it is, it's actually a decent title compared to the others and I find myself thinking about it sometimes

My favorite is the fourth one(the room). The opening scene is really good. Ghosts design are great, gameplay is a bit meh and some frustrating issues here and there. I know my opinion might be a bit bias cuz i did not enjoy old SH as much due to shitty port.

Silent Hill 1 is my favourite scary ,and survival horror game Ever, only being approached by the Evil Within 2,and Resident Evil 7.

I opted to play Silent Hill 1 on an old CRT with the original PS1 when I heard about the SH2 remake. I had never played a SH game before, and now ive played 1-4. The "downside" of the "bad" graphics really holds no weight for me. If anything it added to the experience. The less you understand something, the scarier it is, and I feel like if I had just emulated the game and had high textures, I would have been less immersed into the experience, being able to see the actual seams of the texture wrapping and fully make out the features of the monsters skins. Leaving that all up to more of an interpretation makes the horror come from your own mind. The archaic setup, with the fuzz of the crt and shifting of the dingey polygons, was like the rust of that world was penetrating my living room. When fighting the lizard, every time he roared the speakers of my CRT rattled inside their box, as if the beast was truly lurking behind the humming screen. Look around the horror gaming sphere today and you will see plenty of modern games aiming to emulate that era of graphics. "Low end" graphics are never a bad thing if they are backed up by a solid vision abd art style. Silent Hill 1 is still my favorite Silent Hill game, and one of my top 5 games of all time. I love it.

I only ever played the 1st 3 games and 2 won for me by a million miles. 1 & 3 were too scary too soon but 2 has this perfect slow set up where you gradually get into more disturbing parts of the game. 1 was very good but 3 put me off and scared me too quick I just didnt finish it. I had no interest in the story either to be honest. What I love about all 3 games is the soundtracks they are beyond amazing.

I bought my first PC just prior to Win 95 hitting the market. Silent Hill 3 was released what 2003? I bought the PC release of the game then anyway. And also the PS2 version. (which I actually sold last year for something like £60 used on ebay.) First thing I've done on EVERY single computer that I've bought since then has been to reinstall Silent Hill 3 on it. It needs a no-cd .exe installed to make it work these days. But I feel no guilt adding that my bona-fide install of the game. so.. whatever lol. So yeah. SH3 for me.. SH2 is good. But I just (and it's fractions of a percent here) prefer SH3 personally.

I found Downpour to be less enjoyable than games lower on the list. Shattered Memories was a good puzzle game, but not a horror game in the slightest. At least Homecoming and Origins had breif moments decent enemy designs with decent story symbology. Outside of story, Downpour was boring for me. Everything else was spot on for this list.

I agree that SH2 is the best one, but I disagree with your other rankings. I think SH1 should have been number1, and also SH3. If it doesn't make sense, then you're right. I think they all are very good games and I have hard time to decide which one I like the most. I think they all have their own strengths. Objectively SH2 is a better game, but I think SH1 is better Silent Hill game.

Typical mindset that the portable titles are the weakest of a series, of course Book of memories is trash, but Silent Hill Origins on the PSP is top 5 of the series, awesome graphics, great Akira Yamaoka OST, is the closest in style and desing to the first two games.....this game kicks Downpoor ass (and even shattered memories´s) in any multiverse posible

I can understand your hate from Homecoming, but the ost is awfull? i don´t think so, witchcarft, Elie Theme, One more soul to the call and more are so fckn great. I need to admit that homecoming have some good stuffs too, i know is not the best but i don´t considered the worst like Downpour, Arcade or Origins. After that i am completly agree for SH3, is so underrated, and Shattered Memories i dónt agree, it have survivial horror elements like hide and seek and thriller horror psico, love it.

If you take out nostalgia the list is 1423 from best to worst, 1 has the best music, best characters, best story, best sound design, best area design it’s perfect the only things 2 and 3 have over it are being ps2 games which allowed for better graphics, and enemy design. 4 gets the most hate because unlike 2 and 3 it did what 1 did to break away from RE games and made a whole new take for the series and made entirely new mechanics also Walter Sullivan is a much better character than anyone from 2 and 3 not named the dead body of harry mason. 2 is better than 3 because at least they made an original story not just a weird sequel to 1

Just finished silent Hill 2. Did not like it. I loved 1 (which I also just finished for the first time). The ending for 2 was too quick, and didn't have much buildup.
