Fantastic video Luke, I've never tried the layering spray but it looks like it works a treat. After you started messing up the second layer with your fingers I was thinking "Oh no....." but then you applied the third layer and I was like.... 😮 that's awesome!

Only thing I would have asked for is a discussion about why you are pressing the end of the wire down into the glue. =) But you got a like from me nonetheless.

I built Luke Towans applicator after watching his video. I don't think I spent more than £20 and I have enough bits left over to build another 5. The most expensive thing is the ion generator, that was £8. I used a 12volt transformer from an old wifi router for the power supply. The finish to the terrain is far superior to using flock I find. Thanks for your videos.

Great tutorial, straight forward with clear steps and the reason behind them. I love the pinching effect (I’m working on a muddy rough field diorama so that will be perfect to give that wild grass look). The only addition I made was in the tire ruts from the artillery piece I made in the sculptamold, I pressed some 12mm grass into the glue with vajello mud effect (I know there is smashed grass paint but that only looks good in a tiny patch in a tank tread or wheel) since this is supposed to be a hastily prepared firing location before they have to displace again

One source of the flock confusion is that it means different things to different hobbies. Static grass is known as nylon flock and there is a whole world of car interior modification that uses short (1mm or less) nylon flock to create suede effects on dashboards. Plus those who flock furniture like inside draws and jewellry boxes to create velvet textures. If you want bulk static grass there are companies who supply those hobbies selling in in kilograms in any useful length in a rainbow of pantone colours.

This looks really well done. I'm not sure why, but most other techniques I've seen started with long grass then edged it with shorter, and it always bothered me how it turned out. But your technique of starting with the shorter grass, plus your color combinations made a world of difference!

Hi Luke, thanks for your awesome videos! I’ve been hesitating to what applicator i want to buy. I saw that WWS now has a a new awesome detailer applicator that looks great so I’ve to choose between that one or the micro since I make small pieces usually. Have you used the detailer and which one would you choose? I have a flock box already but I realised that its not good to use for putting down grass on a slightly larger piece, more for flocking troops bases and making tufts.

It looks like you could do with an atomiser applicator such as a perfume bottle for the glue as it would create a much finer mist, prevent the spray moving the grass around.

Hi, do you think I can use this glue on Woodland Scenics blended turf to lock everything down then when it's dry apply WWS static grass on top?, I'm a little bit of my afraid that if I try and apply the static grass it will all come away from the surface of the blended turf then it all would have been a complete waste of time or should I have just applied the static grass to brown painted plaster instead ??.

I am doing a resin table and would love to use the static grass in it. It is a cross between a mountainous diorama and a resin river table. All will be coved in resin. My question is, Once the grass is applied and dry … is it stiff? If yes I think I can pour thin layers and work my way up the blades of grass slowly / resin does level so I need it somewhat stiff for it to work. what are your thoughts?

Does the wws applicator still need to "cool down" after turning off so you don't accidentally discharge on yourself ? Have a cheap one off Amazon and I find it holds a charge for a while after turning it off, have to close the circuit by touching the wire to the mesh and this discharges ... And it shock myself too often. Damnit I hate that part.

Hi Luke. I have the large applicator and meshes. I purchased a shed load of different grass from them as well. But the grass came in very large reseal bags and it was all in tight round balls in the bags. An absolute nightmare to use. Takes forever to break it all up. Dont know if they screwed up or just dont care. Machine is great but the way the grass came was very bad. I had same problem with Layer spray bottle. I left the spray head in cold water for two days and it all cleared. Now I wash it every time. If the grass was not in tight balls, at least seperated, it would have been great. Love your videos always very helpful.

Prob a little damp still from manufacturer, transfer it into a plastic tub and give it a good shake, maybe put an agitator in like you would with acrylic paint. It's probably actually a bit better value for money being tightly packed instead of half a bag of air!
