Fairly close to what it was. He essentially changed himself to what he thought she would like out of his love for her. So that she would be happy. He was essentially sacrificing and splitting his identity for her happiness. One was the mustache guy who the girl might never like, and the other was this cool, energetic guy who the girl would most likely like.
