You gave them a really good run

If not for the obscene amount of accesories, I would have been underwhelmed by the figure's head sculpt. After all, I can't help but compare it to NECA's version which gives it a run for the money for a lot less. I'm a Chris Reeve fan just like you, and I was hoping to be blown away by a company I respect for great sculpts. I rarely buy MEZCO'S 1/12, because of the price. I'm mostly a Marvel Legends/Select, NECA, DC Direct (RIP)/MULTIVERSE collector. I recently purchased a Mezco Hellboy Movie fig from my Comic Book Shop after getting blown away by the quality of the likeness and the sculpt. I made an exception. It's not a total loss for me. I'm just not "Wowed" by it. Hopefully S.H. figuarts can give us a better version down the line. Heck. Maybe Mcfarlane can surprise us as well.

@@zenheat I know. I was hoping for a really good figure when the pre-order was announced. I'd say that the fanboy in me just took a leap of faith. Sadly, I bought an accessory pack with a figure included. I'm keeping the set just because I like the accessories which I can use for the NECA or hopefully future versions of this scale. MEZCO provided us with the perfect set-up. Now all we need is a better figure.

@@zenheat Precisely! Their supposed to be "high-end," and they certainly charge as much. I could have bought an entire Marvel Legends set for what I paid.

@@zenheat I will say. I noticed pretty quickly that their prototypes were about 80% photoshop. All the colorizing and details were added onto of a gray blank. This was my first and only MEZCO purchase so I can't say if this is common practice with their prototype reveals. I feel like this one was rushed through production with their "Superman Day" reveal and well... pandemic, pandemic, China, China. And so I think the material choices that came along as they went kinda hindered the execution. that's just my honest opinion. I'm not hating on this figure too hard. but there are the little things that bug me, but I understand. Going from a photoshop promise to a physical reality is a world I operate in, so I know the pitfalls.

@@GeekSummit It's a sensitive subject to try to get the likeness of an icon especially when NECA put out a great product at a much better price. MEZCO as a "high-end" toyline is expected to deliver a better version. As I said, the accessories are great, but I wasn't excited for the background items.

I would not hold out hope for a decent SHF version of this guy as their DC line history is pretty miserable imo (other than WW84, the Batpod & SS HQ) & a number of their recent issues are off on scale height (too short) like their recent 89 Batman. McFarlane Toys isn't going to be able to produce anything close to this Mezco version in terms of quality either (based on what I've seen from their DC issues so far) imo. Mafex possibly, as their DC stuff is pretty good imo other than their frustrating recurring QC issues. This Mezco issue looks like it's worth the MSRP for what's included in the Can imo.

Definitely loved your version better. I hope you can do a tutorial on one for making the S on back of superman's cape. Definitely loved your dark knight ones. Bought a rotary cutter thanks to you, works like a charm. Thank you

Hey MAN!! Thanks! We like it. I probably pulled my rattiest head sculpt for this... but man it's cold out here in the garage. I got in, I got out. Thought about doing a fortress shoot in the snow but NAH... I ain't built for this stuff.

Your \S/ shields are more accurate. I think it's inescusable that, for $125, Mezco couldn't have made the shields like yours. I also like how your cape length is accurate to the Fortress scenes in Superman II (i.e down to his calves). Mezco apparently went with the less impressive length from the publicity photos for the first movie.

Your geekaummit Superman is looking great! Do you use HeatNBond soft ultra tape? Do you have to cut the tape into narrower strips before ironing to avoid making the seems wide or bulky? Is the HeatNBond strong? Any issues of the seams peeling apart? If you put Superman into stretched poses like leg splits, would the seams split apart?
@GeekSummit
@GeekSummit Жыл бұрын
Thank you!! Yessir. I use the heavy bond (18” x 20’ rolls) and hand cut into .25” strips. It’s a bit of work but it’s a craft in the truest sense of the word. These guys are CRAFTED.

And the seams do hold for stretching h out arms (don’t really do the splits much but even those are pretty solid.

@@Augnalius oh yeah. But I’d just end up slicing it down anyway. Plus having the roll you can experiment with larger pieces.
@Augnalius
@Augnalius Жыл бұрын
@@GeekSummit I see what you mean about the large roll. If one wants to attach large parts it's easier to cut the shape from a large roll than have to layer tiny strips beside eachother to fill the large area. Large roll gives you choices, strips are convenient if that's all you need but it would be harder to rebuild a shape out of strips instead of cut the shape from the sheet.

Great work. In hand the Mezco figure has left very mixed emotions. Frankly I was hoping for a suit, build, and size more like the one you did. About the boots and belt on yours. Molding clay or fabric?
@GeekSummit
@GeekSummit 3 жыл бұрын
They are fabric, welded/built/sealed with that same Heat'n'Bond fabric fuser I used to build the suit.

Do you sell your completed supermen figures? Let's say hot toys used heatnbond for their figures and stopped using sewing, would you feel that the heatnbond would be reliable and acceptable enough for selling to customers?
@GeekSummit
@GeekSummit Жыл бұрын
I have sold some in the past but I’m continually improving my process. But I do feel heatnbond is sufficient as long as it’s used appropriately with the right materials. The material has to have stretch so I use 4way stretch polyester for body suits. You can use anything that scales for capes and other parts.
@Augnalius

@@GeekSummit That's great. It helps to know of someone who has used heatnbond soft stretch ultra successfully like you have. Eventually I may try it with 4 way stretch fabric.

@@darkhawkzero Gotcha. yeah... sometimes the classics are the way to go. even if you make aflexible boot, you need to have a posable joint in there somehow. Ive thought if doing this a couple different ways but I'm far form attacking anything like that soon.
@darkhawkzero
@darkhawkzero 3 жыл бұрын
@@GeekSummit yes I do agree with you about the ankle joint or a ball joint basically is just measuring out the right measurements of width and depth and plus room for it to fit while assembling it but I will also like to see what you have in store down the road I really don’t have the right equipment just bear materials but if you eventually make this boot idea I will definitely be very interesting purchasing a set oh ps Mezco 1978 Superman the yellow S on the cape is to big not the right size maybe Tony Mai might’ve something going?
@GeekSummit

@@darkhawkzero with flexible enough fabric you could still likely pull it off. The pleather I use on my boots is very flexible but you still have to hem them, so that hem has to land somewhere.
