We head into regional Victoria and take a walk around Geelong, a town around 70 km from Melbourne city. It is a port city and has its own beach, and a few ferries to and from Melbourne, in addition to the VLine trains which also connect the two cities together. Like Melbourne, it was also an bustling city during the gold rush era.
We start our walk hopping off a VLine train at Geelong Station, which is old enough to be heritage listed. We walk around the Cultural Precinct, with Victorian, Batman-esque Arts Deco and Brutalist buildings all mixed into one place. These are mostly government buildings, along with a library and art museum.
Afterwards, your walker heads into the the city centre, starting with Little Malop Street, part of which is a walking street surrounded by great cafes (come for breakfast here if you're staying the night). Many heritage buildings, such as the T&G Building (which used to exist in every major Australian city - the one in Melbourne still stands: / cxdwmnxvy3y ) and the local Village Cinema retains its classic exteriors.
