The historical use of geese as guards is really funny
@DrMattHH26 күн бұрын
Some modern prisons have started using geese as a combination alarm/security perimeter. Unlike dogs, you can't bribe geese, & they're super aggressive & territorial, so they attack and honk loud if anyone tries to pass them.

Romans had sacred geese that supposedly alerted them to an impending Gaul invasion by honking loudly. That was 4th century BC during the Republic.

Actually, if you're not careful and introduce the geese to whatever animal you want them to guard correctly. They will absolutely kill whatever you're trying to make them guard. If you don't introduce the baby chicks to goose at the right age and over the right amount of time, you're gonna come out 1 day, and that goose is going to have killed those chicks. It's not like a llama where as long as there's only a single llama, it will look at whatever animal that isn't a dog in the area and say "you belong to me now and I will guard you with my life."

"Lest" means "so that not / for fear that" or, in specific fossilized phrases, "that"; never "unless / except if". I.e. Don't leave the stove on and exit the room lest you burn your breakfast. And just in case, while we're at it: "Itching" is something you feel, "scratching" is what you do to alleviate the itching. One does not "itch oneself". Similarly, one is not "jealous" of someone if one wants what the other has. "Jealousy" is the fear that someone else will take what one has. If one wants what the other has, he is "envious". Essentially, jealousy is the feeling that someone is envious of you and planning to act on it. And just in case there is a typo in what I've written: That typo is a mistake, what you did was commit an error. The difference being that a mistake is something that happens due to carelessness while the general rule - how it should be spelt - is known. An error is a failure to grasp the rule itself, a mistake is an unintentional violation of the rule in spite of knowing the same. You're welcome.
