This geisha show was excellent and worth it. Got to experience a taste of history of Japan. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that wants to experience the history of geisha and the fresh delicious food.

Some people may not be able to see the beauty of this or the skill it takes because they are familiar with fast paced dances. But I'd challenge anyone to attempt this and NOT wobble around like a newborn deer. Most of you don't have the posture or balance to be this graceful. Dances don't have to be fast or dramatic to require skill and tell a story. Appreciate things from different perspective and open your minds. There is a reason why maiko/geisha culture is admired. Its truly a gift to see this in person. Sending love from The United States

Getting up and sitting down then moving so gracefully around must take a lot of practice. I can’t help but stumble in my own saree despite wearing it so many times. Being a geisha is a touch yet graceful lifestyle!

In the video is a beautiful Maiko! Not a Geisha. You can differentiate the two with these things: -Maiko’s wear more brighter coloured kimonos with longer sleeves, while a geisha wears darker colours and shorter sleeves (to show maturity) -Geisha’s have almost no hairpins, again to show their maturity. Meanwhile most Maiko’s use their real hair instead of wigs, and can wear a lot of flower hairpins -The obi that a maiko wears is normally long, a geisha’s obi is tied in a knot -Some but I assume younger Maiko’s wear only lipstick on the bottom lip (not all to sure) - A geisha has also a different hairstyle than most maikos which is Geiko Shimada It’s understandable that many people confuse the two, but a Maiko is just the apprentice of a geisha!

I notice they shuffle walk and with flexed knees, the maiko uses a sliding kick shove motion very skillfully to control the long kimono edges that drag on the floor. I think they practice this as part of maintaing the kimono while moving around safely while dancing.

……😑 If you are going to travel to another country, please show that country enough respect to learn their customs. You don’t have to learn everything, but, for example, if you’re going to go to a show where a Mako is dancing, read up on the customary behavior while watching. It isn’t hard to do and it’s polite. not geisha , maiko ('apprentice geisha/geiko') from what i remember, correct me if im wrong but a way to tell the difference is meiko have 'Ware shinobu hairstyle with flowers and hairpins' geiko have less oranaments and a different hair style thats just one way to tell the difference.

I think the also have the long fabric in the back of their kimono. (Sorry didn't want to misnamed it). Geisha wear the same kimono 's other women would wear.
@sheepmen64172 жыл бұрын
@@mizbootsie8175 The bigger fabric on the back is meant to be bigger because Maiko are entertainers who are still training to be professional Geiko, they use the extra weight from the fabric to train themselves to dance better, the many ornaments on the hair and colorful kimono is to mask their still developing dance skills. Professional Geiko wear less ornaments and duller kimonos, including a smaller ribbon on the back.

@@squeaksvolumes Her Collar is red, but because she is a senior Maiko her collar is White in Front, look at the back of her collar it is Red, A full Geisha's Collar would be white front and back. Also the lady playing the Shamisen is a Geisha a Jikata to be precise, but a geisha still.

I wish I can understand the lyrics too, it sounds beautiful. The lyrics to these types of music are poetic and beautiful. The song has the word “momiji” in it, so it’s probably about the season of autumn. Momiji are the red leaves, I think. Her fan hints at it since it’s decorated with red autumn leaves. The second song is “Gion Kouta.” You can find an English translation online. :)
