Great video. I I learned a lot from watching this. I also have found using a piece of double sided tape when painting the eye helps prevent the eye from moving around. This is especially helpful on smaller eyes.

These are the best, easiest eyes I've seen done, and best of all, I don't have to buy anything to finish a few tonight. Thanks so much for the ideas!

Patricia you can also use regular nail polish to create your eye and then seal it with a layer of gel polish once you let the regular polish completely dry. I mention this if you have a regular nail polish color you would like to use :) Also keep a small paper towel to the side saturated with a high percentage alcohol to wipe your brush on if it needs cleaning. you can also mix your colors on a tile it will wipe right off with alcohol. OR you could mix it in a shallow dish and then cover it with press n seal so the dust doesnt get into it and you can use it again later.
@patriciaroberts-thompson7 жыл бұрын
Thank you , all good tips! You can even do the pupils in gel, and the iris in acrylic paints, then seal with more gel. It's wonderful stuff to play with!
@FatPeanutsFat7 жыл бұрын
Yes it opens up a lot of options (i do all this stuff on my nails lol) just always make sure that whatever you are putting the gel on is completely dry or the gel wont cure properly.

Hi Patricia may I ask you were did you get the Size Chart if that's what is call?
@patriciaroberts-thompson7 жыл бұрын
I think you are referring to the circle template - I believe I got mine in an Artist supply store ( Curry's ) , but i think places like Hobby Lobby and Michaels should have them.
@Stoney3277 жыл бұрын
HelloYes, I was just at Michaels today, they DO have the Circle Templates. They're in the Drafting tool section. I believe they were about $8.99? Don't hold me to that, the memory "ain't" what it used to be. God bless.Dave

@GothicElf687 жыл бұрын
This was really great. I had recently found a tutorial on how to take one of those eyes and make it into a bracelet, but I had no idea how to do the eye itself. I'm not the most artistic person; I cannot draw to save my life. But this looks like something even I could do. Thanks a lot. Bookmarking this, so I can watch it again! Couple of quick questions (1) How much do those light boxes run? I'm in college and finances are tight. (2) Will those gels 'cure' in the sun if it is hot enough outside?
@patriciaroberts-thompson7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Raigh, I checked on Amazon.com Lamps run from $40.00 to $70.00. They can also be purchased at Beauty supply outlets, like Sally Beauty Supply. I can't say for sure if the gels will cure in the sun or not, as I haven't tried it. Magic Gloss resin from Lisa Pavelka will cure in the sun. Maybe I'll try that if we ever get Summer here! :)
@ztrek20006 жыл бұрын
The UV you get from the sun has nothing to do with the temperature of the air...you can even get UV when it's cloudy although curing when it's sunny will be the fastest...allow about 30 minutes if curing by sunlight

I love the idea of the nail gel I have used normal nail polish on my first dragons eye but I think on the next one I will use my nail gels as you said you can work it for as long as you like until it goes into the light box 🤔 now that's a plus as I found I had to work fast with the normal nail polish as it would start to thicken as I worked it now why is it when doing the dragons eye it dried faster than if it was on my nails 😹😹😹 umm Thank you for a new look at my nail gels 😹😹
@patriciaroberts-thompson7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Angela, you'll love how the gels work for painting- enjoy!

So pretty! I use acrylic paints but they are apt to move about randomly as you add new colours, so it's a bit frustrating. x

Thank you for this tutorial, what are the basic colors of nail polish did you buy to start.. the clear, and black was there any other colors
@patriciaroberts-thompson6 жыл бұрын
Just a clear top coat and the black , you will need to add mica colours to the clear to make the different iris colours. I have used different colours of gel polish before, but I thought I'd simplify this tutorial, as most Polymer Clay users have mica powder
@petrinabeads26407 жыл бұрын
Great tutorial! I was wondering if you Lisa Pavelka's magic gloss was interchangeable with the nail gel? Also, have you ever tried to make an eye using paints made for glass (I believe Martha Stewart has or used to have a line of glass paints)? Thanks for taking the time to share your technique.
@patriciaroberts-thompson7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Petrina, I haven't really used Magic gloss yet, I have some on order, so will be experimenting with it soon. I have some glass paints, but I really like the mica colours ( I suppose I could add some to the paint- but would it change the composition? ) I guess, I don't want to mess with what works for me

Have you used UV gel nail polish to glaze jewellery pieces? I have been trying to find out if it is possible to use it with good, long term results.
@patriciaroberts-thompson6 жыл бұрын
I have, and I liked it, though it is an expensive way to go. There is a UV Resin ( Hard) by Cathery that is sold on Amazon, Ebay etc that works very well. I showed it my my Pebeo Bracelet video, towards the end
@harmony1232467 жыл бұрын
Hi, what is the exact mica powder you are using? also where do i get the led lamp from?
@patriciaroberts-thompson7 жыл бұрын
The mica powders I used were, Oro Solar, micro pearl and Super copper, by Pearlex. Led Lamps can be purchased at any Beauty Supply outlet, like Sally Beauty Supply. Amazon also sells them

I keep my nails polished but have never used the gels, can you clean your brushes with soap and water or do you need remover?
@patriciaroberts-thompson7 жыл бұрын
I just give my brushes a little wipe with rubbing alcohol after each use, and a bit of soap and water when I'm done.
@Auchtahelweit3 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard that because it’s not intended for long term use the pigments in nail polish won’t last? I’ve also heard that the clear coats tend to yellow faster. I’ve not seen any evidence either way but it does concern me. Do you have any discoveries you’ve made for this in regards to how well these hold up to time?
@ASMRyouVEGANyet2 жыл бұрын
It takes years for the colors to yellow inside the bottle. I'm not sure we have to worry about that. If you sell these, I doubt you guarantee they last for more than 5 years, because it's not high end jewelry. That said, if you bake it with the clay it might cure it better and the color will be more stable.
