I’ve always imagined that, by Gen 12, they’ll just release a game called Pokémon: Planet and it’s literally the entire world of Pokémon mapped out and playable. Start with whatever the newest region is, and give a bunch of stuff to do, then you find out that the post game unlocks a whole other area/region and basically lets you start over again. From that point on, DLCs or maybe even “season passes” bring out the past or even new regions for you to travel to. Example: first major DLC is Kanto and Johto together, but modernized with a brand new story and all the old mons from those regions. And maybe as you play you hear about the events of the past, referencing the old games and such. I imagine it kinda like how Destiny 2 or World of Warcraft does their seasons now

My idea for level scaling: have an intended order of gyms (maybe traversing the map clockwise). If you complete the gyms in the intended order, they scale normally. If you do it backwards it scales steeper. Maybe gym 1's first badge team has 2 level 12 bug types, and gym 8's has 2 level 15 first stage dragons and something for type coverage. Gym 1's last badge team can have stronger than gym 8's, or better AI. Maybe give hints by npcs saying things like gym 8 might be tough for beginners, or gym 1 goes hard on experienced trainers but is light for newbies. It still scales, but theres a way to do it "hard mode"

Dude, the idea of adding constant regions to an ongoing game is exactly what MMO's like World of Warcraft do and its IMMENSLY successful. Even Assassin's Creed has decided to go that route with Assassin's Creed Infinity. I genuinely think that's the inevitable destination of all rpg-style franchises.

I think we are in a new era for the series!!! Like I feel scarlet and violet is a turning point for the series!!! With aspects of open world, the anime’s different I think Pokémon in entering a new era!!!

Do away with types for Gyms! Make them mixed to remove the ability to counter plan strategies more easily

If Gen 10 is on a new platform - Switch 2 or whatever - it will cost $70 each game, with $40-45 DLC and probably still barely function out of the case.

One of my favorite things about the Pokemon Franchise has always been it's wholesome message, learning to live in harmony with the world and the pokemon around the characters. So here's my idea for a future pokemon game: A complete remake of My Pokemon Ranch, but done in the style of My Time At Portia. Picture the open world of Violet/Scarlet with an Ark Survival style building mechanic. You could build/plant things like Berry Orchards, Herb Gardens (for things like herba mystica), dig rock quarries & mines, maybe even build a seaside marina... All of which would attract different species of pokemon and more powerful varieties as you expand and upgrade the different areas. You could even incorporate different sustainable technologies into the game to help educate the next generation about how to reshape the world in better ways; things like releasing your boxed pokemon in different areas to help increase the production. Water pokemon could be released into lakes and rivers or even aquaponic farm systems to either help restore the lakes/rivers or increase the food production, electric pokemon could help increase the power production of solar panels, or grass pokemon could help reforest areas or fertilize depleted farm land...

Lately it just feels like every game is just a build up to the next, like if they hold back on purpose rather than doing the most with the current project

Honestly, I think gen 10 will just be gen 9 but now with less bugs, less glitches, new region, and new Pokemon And all the anniversary stuff will be merch only (because that’s where the money is for the company)

A difficulty setting (easy-normal-hard-brutal) that changes the level scaling AND the amount of pokemon each trainer/gym leader has. If you struggle with a certain battle, then you just change the difficulty setting and try again.

I wish for difficulty they used competitive mechanics that scale as you progress. Like using weather and field effects, entry hazards, better EVs and IVs, set up tactics so that it's not just about bigger numbers and this will also teach people a bit about competitive Pokemon. The Tera typing could also be used in a less predictable manner not just on the last Pokemon they use

I like the idea of having an open world game where you explore a region and then instead of releasing new games they just keep creating upgrades to it that unlock new regions, gyms, and Pokemon. It'll keep the game fresh and playable for a long time.

Other option: your starter Pokémon determines what city you start at. For example in a johto game if you pick totodile, you start out in mahogany city. If you choose chikorita, vanilla game. If you choose cyndoquil, you start out at ekurtean city. Then for multiplier, you have normal or survival mode. In survival mode, you must feed your Pokémon berries or milk and let them rest at the pokécenter. Otherwise, sleep deprivation and hunger debuffs happen. Furthermore, survival mode adds level scale formula based on your Pokémon’s level.

I partially agree with Toby's reasoning about no level scaling. There's still a story being told within the game; but it has changed. In older games, HMs were the way you could progress through the game. Not so much now, with Scarlet/Violet being so open. I think the best alternative could be based on how many badges you have determine the difficulty of the next gym you challenge. It seems to be how Gym Leaders chose their pokemon in the anime series, or at least that was an impression I got at times.

for the level scaling I have talked with friends a lot and what Toby says is right. But there where the difficulty level should still be on the players hands. So my thinking about Level Scaling is that only the wild pokemon truly scale to your level and for the gym leaders you can do them at any order but for example gym1 will always be lvl15. So instead of giving the gym leaders level scaling they get 8 different teams depending on why gym they truly are.

I just think they should make a difficulty modifier that's a blanket over the overall game experience. We don't need boosted levels we just need an AI that will act more like a competitive player and better movesets on boss trainers pokemon that give actual coverage for their weaknesses. The games would be a lot more interesting if the enemy AI had an actual win con it set up for by maximizing their teams synergy.

The solution for level scaling gyms is to have an easy medium and hard setting with different level gaps between your Pokémon and a gym’s. Importantly: the level of a gyms Pokémon would lock after your first attempt until they are beaten (so that if you lose you can grind up a little and try again)

The celebration game has to be big and shows what they can do when they put their minds and resources to it. The Switch has access to cloud gaming, so why not remake the regions to open world and have them accessable on one game (using Home for Dex and storage) they send out one game and ask us where we want to start, then charge for the rest. Work our way through each region, with the ability to catch them all in one copy of the game. Each region DLC comes with the DLC Pokemon avaliable when you have enough badges. When you go to a new region, you can't access your Pokemon that are higher than the number of new region badges you have, so you can't sweep Brock with Lv 100s water types. Your partner would be loaned to the professor of that region until you reach a certain gym. Once all regions are completed you're invited to the Tournament, using your best Pokemon you'll have to reach the top 4 trainers (Champions with EV and IV competative trained Pokemon) then become Champion of champions. You'll also have to defend each Championship you own with the same Pokemon you won with the first time.

The issue is, without level scaling gyms then you’re basically being told what order to do them in, in SV if I were to do the ice gym first I’d probably get annihilated so common sense is to go through it in the order they recommend despite it being my choice what order I do them in

The only way the Pokémon Company can make this game series top notch is look at Tears of the Kingdom Zelda. Full Open Source Map style gaming. Imagine Gyms spread out on the map - replace the towers with Leader Gyms and and food for Pokémon would be based on camping like Tears of the Kindgom Zelda/Sword and Shield.

They can have difficulty scaling, with player choice of how difficult they want it. They can allow players to set a difficulty when they start a playthrough. Gyms would be like easy = 2 levels lower, med = same level, hard = 2 levels higher, very hard = 5 levels higher, hell = 5 levels higher, use items, smart AI. They should add a trophy case at the main menu, where they allow you to earn a trophy for beating the game at each difficulty. They can have 5 difficulties, with perhaps 3 or 4 pre selected custom game rules, like nuzlocke. It wouldn't take that much effort, compared to how much replayability is gained for the game...

Next gen: pokemon islands as a download game with sevi and orange included, but put in a cartridge and you charecter can travel to the new region included.

In an ideal world they put a massive amount of effort into one combined game that combines all regions on a system that can handle it. But in reality we’ll continue to get limited start over sole region games with inter compatibility through home.

I appreciate that after Mesagoza SV is open but felt personally there's too little incentivizing you to go places besides exploring for exploration's sake. Fallout 3, New Vegas, Skyrim all had a story which gave you a reason to go where it was pointing, but with the option to make stops as you pleased. Even with 3 campaigns in SV I didn't feel much of a tug to go in any direction besides for completion's sake. Get all the badges, beat all the delinquents, but the only one I slightly felt compelled to do was Arven's to see if Mabosstif would get better.

I want gyms level scale to be adjusted to how many badges you got, and that you are forced to battle with the same amount of pokemon as the gym leader.

8:06 well simple solution. Level scaling with difficulty levels you choose. You can have easy(the standard rn) medium(more in line with Gens 1-5 difficulty) hard(kinda like the BDSP elite 4 level where they use items, max Ev’s, and hidden abilities) expert(NPCs use ai to mimic VGC pros for strategy). Ofc levels also would scale higher with difficulty so for expert maybe say they’re about 7-8 levels above you, for hard 4-5 levels, medium 2-3 levels, and easy around the same level. Also teams should change based on difficulty and number of badges you have. Ofc that’s be a hassle for the developers because they’d have to make about 32 teams per gym leader to account for difficulty + what gym you fight in terms of order. Obviously not a perfect measurement but in general using level scaling in addition to difficulty settings would work.

For me I am against level scaling in Pokémon except for the gyms, however it must be done in a specific way. It wouldn’t make sense for team star or the titans to scale to your level. However there is an in-universe explanation for badge scaling. Gyms should scale to the amount of badges you have- not the highest level in your party. For example if you have three badges regardless of the order you do the gym, the fourth gym you do will be around level 35-40.

Level scaling in an open world game is one of the worst ideas imo. It defeats the whole point of an open world game. One of the main aspects of open world is stumbling into areas that are stronger then you and have to return later. Having everything level scale with you would defeat this whole part of open world games

I used to play pokemmo because you could travel between Kanto, johto, hoenn, sinnoh and unova within the game. It also had every standard feature of most mmorpg’s but with Pokemon. GF making a game like that would be a dream

Man they should do like Blizzard does, similar to WOW (World of Warcraft). Just add more regions and pokemon in DLC (expansion packs). In order to visit the new region, you pick up a starter from that region and can’t use your old pokemon until you beat the Pokemon League. You can play Solo or with people online. Add all the previous regions and let each player decide in which region they want to start their adventure. When beating a region’a pokemon league then the professor of that region presents you with a ticket and you choose to which region to travel to. And when u arrive to that new region you choose a pokemon starter from that region’s professor and you start your adventure. After u beat that pokemon league you are able to use the other region’s previous pokemon. So some people would like to play Pokemon in order, meaning you start in Kanto, then Johto, then Hoen, sinnoh, unova, etc. Others would love to start in Paldea, then Hoen, then Galar, Alola. The player decides how he wants to roll. Imagine the possibilities. All the gym badges you can get. Rechallenge every gym, two battle frontiers, mega evolution, dynamax and gigantamax, z moves, terrastalize, and more!

The only success I see nintendo pulling off a Pokemon game where inter-regional travel could be achievable is by creating it's own console specifically for pokemon with each region being an expansion pack or paid dlc.

Facts. SV was a AA game at best but kept the AAA price tag. I'm not on board anymore unless they start pouring the product value back into it, which I don't see happening when they know they can box and ship this kind of end product and still sell 10M copies in 3 days. The 'just take my money' fanbase pushes it in the wrong direction.

Me personally, I don't think people will ever become disenfranchised with the series and if they do, most likely, those players similar to myself will continue to purchase games and support the company, i think if someone has been playing the games for a long time they will continue to do so even if they aren't particularly great games, i really didn't like BDSP but i played them anyway, well, because its a pokemon game

Pokémon is in a very interesting position where they have all these monsters and information about them, stats, etc., but they just keep putting new stuff out, almost forgetting the old. Pokémon need to make a game that's similar to what Just Dance is doing. Just Dance is a very popular game that's been around since 2009, and have been releasing a new game every year since, however, as of 2023, they've kind of stopped this pattern. Since the original, every game has kind of been a copy and paste of the previous version, just with different songs, and new game mechanics, however, Just Dance 2023 turned that on its head. Just Dance 2023 now has a story mode, and it's kind of turned into their base game, every release in the series acts like an expansion of it, adding a new chapter to the story, and a bunch of new songs to dance to. Pokémon need something to this extent if they want to escape the repetition of their games. And with technology advancing at the pace it is, it's not too far of a stretch to expect a large game featuring a remake of all the previous regions combined, in a later gen, then expanding from there.

Most of the issue can be settled with a difficulty setting at the beginning of the game. Also what would help them with brand recognition is if they also recognized this thing called cloud saves. The most infuriating thing about Pokemon is that for me to actually play through let's go or Arceus is if i don't have Pokemon home, which i still refuse to give Gamefreak, creatures or Nintendo any extra money, i don't use it or have it. Therefore if i want to 100% let's go at least I'm going to have to buy Mew for the riding price of pokeball plus. I'm not sure about Arceus if i need to buy bdsp again for its completion. Because they're greedy, i can't "catch them all". That's why i stopped playing the games after Gen 2. I started again at gen 6, however that problem still exists. I don't mind Arceus without catching them all, however I'll never be able to beat Arceus 100% because of their greed.

so......regions as DLC has been something i wanted since Sword and Shield started DLC. I mean you could start in Kanto, and the Ferry and Rail systems could link you to the other Regions. at least 1 new region and subplot added for said region each year. then reset yourself using a different timeframe and theme for the next console generation. We have 9 regions now? that easily could be done. do the cycle twice and there is your 20 year plan

They should start the new pokemon game with Switch 2 graphics and start from gen 1 and through DLC and expansions end up with all regions and all generations pokemons. Over the years everyone remain in the same universe and can trade duel and participate in various group events.

Honestly I want a Pokémon game with the animations of bw, all typings available, explore 2 regions, new starters with dual typings never used before, no trade evo, no mega/dyna/z moves. We get a new elite 4 of trainers from previous gens, have more than 1 main rival, and game extras from XY

It's crazy how much money they make and how badly they treat their games like they're some poor company while they are like 1 of the biggest. I'm kinda feeling like going 3d was a mistake aside from PLA since the 3ds we had less and less content in games. Like sure SV had a great story probably up their as one of the best but once your finished your left with a big empty open world of nothing in a region of forgettable towns with no quests or extra fun battles to do like a BF, and wild encounters/interaction were a step down from PLA.

I just wish one day for a Pokémon game to start in kanto and progress through to galar region make the elite 4 challenging in which their teams are set up with tourney style move sets and stats.

i TOTALLY agree with BKT about level scaling. people complaining about the gyms in SV was always so stupid to me. like, if i want a challenge then i can skip the second gym and try to beat the third gym early. if it has level scaling then it's just completely arbitrary which order you do each gym, because it's gonna be the exact same challenge whichever order you do them in.

Gamefreak definitely needs to release a remake on the next console before gen 10. They have a history of struggling to use the full capability of hardware their first time (black and white look much better than diamond and pearl, ultra sun and ultra moon look much better than x and y, and scarlet and violet look much better than let's go Pikachu and let's go Eevee). So if gen 10 is their first attempt on new Nintendo hardware, the games will likely look mediocre compared to other first party games... Like right now

GameFreak keeps coming up with excuses to not bring back the option to disable EXP share. Heck; whereas the company behind Pokemon Go was able to bring back mega evolution, GameFreak is too lazy to do the same. Don't even get me started with the notorious pokedex cuts.

Also anti-level scaling. Goes along with my disliking of open world games. It makes everything lean towards being simplified and bland, because everything has to be functional in every combination. It also just exacerbates how much work needs to be put into it (like the series doesn't have this issue in other aspects already..) to keep it "as good as it would normally be", which is already being criticized a lot when it hasn't been complicated by unnecessarily ambitious ideas. What I think would work best for this series is to have set progression/path on the macro level, but then have isolated sections within that path where things can be done out of order.
