This was by far not a "cult " film, it was a summer blockbuster in 1976. It always had a following. The money that this money made by 20th Century-Fox, financed the making of Star Wars for the summer of 1977. Lol

The priest, Father Brennan, is played by Patrick Troughton. He was in a lot of movies and TV shows. A lot of people best remember him as the Second Doctor in Doctor Who from 1966-69.

At the time, the death of Jennings was purported to be one of the most graphic death scenes ever put on film. None of us in the theater saw it coming until the last second and wham, decapitation.

The film was incredible and still holds after all these years. Lee Remick ( a great actress of the 60s ) always wanted a chance to play a part with Gregory Peck and got her wish with this film. The music score, composed by Jerry Goldsmith, won Jerry his one and only Oscar after several nominations. The Hayes Code ended in 1968 which brought in the rating system after the graphic violence was shown in the film "Bonnie & Clyde."

I saw this on HBO in 1977 when I was 7 years old, and it scared the hell out of me. This film has aged well. The sequel Omen 2 is one of the few times in movie history that a sequel is worthy to the original. What makes this film scary is that it plays on phycological fear, but it also has the visual effect and soundtrack to back up fear. All in all it's a scary horror flick!

I likewise saw it on tv about the same time about the same age. Absolutely terrifying, gave me nightmares. Same thing for Omen 2, whenever it was on tv. I probably saw that one when I close to the age of Damien. Really scary.

@@IanFindly-iv1nl True. I find that weird, though. I was 8 or 9 when I watched Omen for the first time, and it was the first horror movie I've ever seen. Still, the 'his mother is a jackal' bit was quite clear to me. Maybe the modern audience views things from another angle somehow.

A ‘cult’ classic is a movie that wasn’t very big or noticed or did poor box office at its release but overtime the movie has become beloved and gained a substantial following over time. The Omen was a major release and a hit from the beginning. A better example of a cult classic would be ‘The Big Lebowski’ or ‘The Princess Bride’ or even ‘This Is Spinal Tao’

Omen 2 is a must watch. Omen 4 has always had mixed reviews. A lot of people think it was one film too far. I actually quite liked it. It's definitely not on the level of 1 and 2, probably mostly because by the time it came out in 1991, a lot of the supernatural horror tropes were commonplace and had lost a lot of their impact on the audience.

Damien means “tame” and is a traditional Catholic name because of Saints Cosmo and Damien (who were a set of identical twins…perhaps the scriptwriter chose the name because Damien is the double or replacement for the couple’s actual child who died at birth). But due to the Omen movies the name Damien has picked up a sinister reputation. This movie also popularised 666 which was not much of a talking point among American Christians before the 70s. Of course, the oldest scroll of the book of Revelation said the number of the Beast is 616. 666 is a copyist error…a medieval typo that has become normalised into scripture. But its still a really good film

In that case NOTHING is a cult classic because everyone has probably heard of all the currently accepted "cult classics" So, let's leave this at, you have your opinion of the definition and qualifications of what a "cult classic" is and I have mine and they are not intersecting.

A movie can be popular and reach a cult status, it just means the followers are loyal to the movie almost like a cult, where u just follow loyally and without a doubt.

Loved the final thoughts discussion. Michael wants to see a sequel and I think you should really give "Damien-Omen II" (1978) a shot. Not as good as the first but definitely a worthy sequel! The third move, "The Final Conflict" (1981) is the weakest of the trilogy but it has its moments and SAM NEILL (Jurassic Park, Event Horizon) is sinister as an adult Damien. The fourth one, "The Awakening" (1991) was a made-for-TV money grab and repeats the original story but with a little girl. Not good. The 2006 remake is almost beat-for-beat copy but it's not terrible. Liev Schreiber (Scream, Ray Donovan) and Julia Stiles (Save the Last Dance, 10 Things I Hate About You) star as the married couple. Damien is 2016 TV series that ignores all sequels and tells the story of Damien after the first movie.

It was mostly a good movie, but there were some notable shortcomings. The worst one was the scene where the photographer gets decapitated - showing his head spinning around in mid-air, spraying blood in slow motion, was totally unnecessary and gratuitously gory. It was vile.

So The Omen is Trending again, This film came out as Generation X was coming to a close and Generation Next was around The Corner, I'm Gen X. Yeah 2023 WOOSH BOOM, It Flew like the Concord. Ralph Bakshi Films are Cult Classics, Carrie is a Cult Classic, The Exorcist is a Cult Classics, Gremlins is a Cult Classic Films that were Poorly Received When they came out but have Garnished love over the years are Cult Classics, It's a Wonderful Life is a Christmas Cult Classic. Nah there are only 3. Any other Omen films have been Disavowed by this Reviewer. Richard Donner's first time in the Director's Chair, Superman and The Goonies came later. FYI Richard Donner did not see this as a Horror Film but as a Psychological Thriller, If he had seen it as a Horror Film He would not have made it, and wouldn't ask The Crew and Actors to get on board with it,And it would be an entire different film. Robert Thorn's Child Died on the 6th Hour of The 6th Day of the 6th Month, And Damien was Adopted. And Damien has a Triple6 Birthmark in his hair. 76, in 78 we got Superman. Yeah it's a Catholic Hospital, The Thorn's are Catholic. Harvey Stevens was 5 when he got the role of the Antichrist, but he looks 2, so you can meet in the Middle and say 3. No it's just a Toy Dog with Wheels, They were Popular in the 70s. I had 1. You couldn't get away with that fool around line in today's Society. It was the 70s, things were safer back then. Yeah That's the Back Yard. Wealth, am I right? It's just like The Ending Scene of Annie (1982), When Warbucks Hires a Circus for the 4th of July. "IT'S ALL FOR YOU DAMIEN!" You guys didn't see that coming, The first Scene I ever saw of The Omen is when she hangs herself. Didn't see the film in it's entirety until 1996. And when I did see I knew what was going on, Damien is The Antichrist. Popperazzi weren't as frowned on back then as they are today, And it's Keith's Photos That give rise to The Photos in Final Destination that show how someone is going to Die, You can thank Richard Donner for that. He was gonna say his mother was a Jackal, but he got interrupted, so it came out his mother was a Jack. Damien is Freaking out Because his Ancient Enemy Runs The Church. Richard Donner Took one of The Monkey's Babies, And that's why They Attacked The Car. You Don't need a Dark Room anymore, Not after the Digital Revolution and Card Stock. You'll find out what that line is, It's his Final Destination. Megedo Refers to Armageddon. The Lightning Rod went behind Patrick Throughton for The Impaled Priest Scene, Pretty cool eh? Yeah this is where Mom Dies, Lee was Actually afraid of heights and to get around That Richard Painted the wall to look like a Floor, with painted Sardines Glued to it, and Fake Plants with Wires Pointing out, While Lee was Standing on a Rotating Platform to give the Illusion she was Falling, And when The Fishbowl Broke Richard Scooped up the Fish so it wouldn't Die, he was big in Animal Rights. It's time to pay what is owed. Yeah I keep forgetting she survives The First fall at home, and is Killed by the Second fall at the Hospital. when it came to the Decapitation of Keith, Richard knew that Audiences would close their eyes for the Count of 3, So he just added a few Extra Seconds So people would see it. And 30 year old Donald Trump was his Godfather. Final Scene Harvey was Directed To look Grumpy, and not to Smile or Laugh, otherwise Richard would never talk to him ever again. But That Ending Grin combined with Jerry's Score Sells it. He's Smiling at you, he knows your watching him. By 76 The Hayes Code was dead and The MPAA Ruled The Cinema, And now The MPAA is dead And the MPA Rules The Cinema. This film has 2 Sequels, Nothing exists after The Final Conflict. Jesus Returns The End. Oh Your right Harvey Stevens didn't do anymore Theatrical Releases after this. The Only Place you see The Upside down Cross is The Poster, It's The Shadows of the Crosses. This is a great Psychological Thriller, They don't make em like this anymore. Gregory Peck was in Roman Holiday (1953) , Moby Dick (1956), Moby Dick (1998) was the last thing he worked on. His Filmography as an Actor Spans from 1944-1998. with 58 Titles under his belt including The Omen (1976). You Should put Something like This😈👿👹👺 in your Title, just a thought.
