"Trans is short for transgender, not transition." This needs to be said way more!
@capcrunch78386 ай бұрын
What does the prefix trans stand for?
@bgiv20106 ай бұрын
@@capcrunch7838 "across", I think. I'm not a Latin expert but I'm pretty sure it refers to being "across" from the assigned gender. As in, I never had my chromosomes checked but I'm generally unbothered to use the masculine gender that was given to me (i.e. "boy"). So I'm cis-gendered, "cis-" meaning "along" as in, "along with" or "together" as opposed to "across from" or "against". I think that just about covers it... but again... I'm no linguist.
@bgiv20106 ай бұрын
@@capcrunch7838 All that to say, it doesn't "stand for" anything since it is a prefix, not an abbreviation. It isn't short for "transform" or "transition" or anything. I know that much.
@capcrunch78386 ай бұрын
@@bgiv2010 well across from actual gender. It does mean something it means across right?
@bgiv20105 ай бұрын
@@capcrunch7838 Yes. That's what I said. "Across from assigned gender." Not "actual gender". That's not a thing.

It's annoying when people say women are people with XX chromosomes because they don't go through life knowing peoples' chromosomes. They make judgements based on peoples' outward appearance.
@tangomango23536 ай бұрын
Exactly. And that definition excludes all of the intersex women who may have xxy or something else.

This!! They most likely don’t even know their own chromosomes. Actual clownery
@fraydizs73026 ай бұрын
@@loveisblue5297 XX = biological female. XY = biological male. There are exceptions to the rule, but that is most likely due to developmental mutations. You cant take extended specific circumstances and try to apply that to the overall rule. Saying that someone cant know someones chromosomes by looking at them is also false 9 times out of 10. Thats like saying that you cant tell a person with down syndrome just by looking at them. You can, again with relatively high accuracy tell just by looking at them. Because a persons genetic makeup will MORE often than not be displayed visibly. ie: thats why people from Africa arent going to look like people from Asia and Europe. Their genetics dictate that, and thus it can be seen visibly. How is this even a debate?

i think pointing out the objectivity of sex, and the subjectivity of gender can be really helpful to those who arent aware, although im not far enough in to tell if this was good faith, saying something like a "biological woman is similar to saying a numerical letter" where a number is representative of quantity, a fixed and objective thing, but a letter is just whatever language you speak, the sound your taught that kind of sounds like, because it changes through generations, but maybe that would be too extended of a metaphor idk

There are People (which can include Trans Women) with entirely XX Chromosomes, and with Ovaries and a Uterus, but were born with what appeared to be a Penis. Depending on where they were born, they might be put on Testosterone as Children without their consent, and they may also have surgeries performed onto them to try and 'Descend' their Ovaries to make them appear as Testicles (Several States that banned Gender Affirming Care for Trans people, literally carved out an exception to ensure that Doctors COULD still mutilate Intersex kids without their consent or knowledge). This is btw, why the language we use is Assigned at Birth.. because.. there are no definitive/objective tests done by Doctors.. In fact, the person who does this may not even be a Doctor.. (it's actually most likely not going to be a Doctor) it could be a relative, religious figure (rabbi/priest), midwife, nurse, or physician. ____________ All of that is to say, you can literally always just say that their Standard includes some Trans Women, so either they don't actually believe this or they're ignorant about what that would actually mean. In fact with Chromosomes, for a lot of these Men you could just ask "If we found out that you had XX Chromosomes.. would that suddenly make you a Woman?" and if they say yes, the follow up is to ask if "She" still wants laws criminalizing "Her" existence like Ron DeSantis is doing...

There is an inherent flaw in the topics main question that makes having a genuinely beneficial conversation on the topic all but impossible, if the person solely focuses on answering the question as its stated. The most reasonable counter to the question "What do you lose?" is "What would you gain?" which is nothing. Why do something that benefits no one and no one gains anything from doing it? Especially the person who has to be the one to do it for the benign purpose of tickling someones ego. Its pointless. Example: "What do you lose from throwing apple seeds onto a cement ground expecting an apple tree to grow?" Well, aside from the thrown apple seed, you dont lose anything. But you gain absolutely nothing at the same time. An apple tree sure as hell isnt going to grow from a seed thrown onto cement. So why do it? You wouldnt, because you would see the pointlessness of it. So if someone demands of you to throw your apple seeds onto the cement so that it would grow a tree, youd be like "WTF? Why?"

That's not even what the argument was about lmfao. u r j adding up smth that wasn't brought up in the argument of "what do u lose by calling trans women - women". no one demanding anything. u can do whatever u want to do, no one stopping u (but remember that there's always would be sertain consequences of ur actions). And u can't even argue that trans women aren't women so what's the point of ur comment? "well, I lose nothing by calling women - women, but I just don't want to do it", so u r an asshole. That's like to say "u said that u r Jonathan, well u don't look like Jonathan to me, because all the Jonathans that I know have brown hair and u have blonde hair, therefore I will not call u Jonathan"
@wallyloveyouguys6 ай бұрын
if we all would go by this logic ("what would you gain?"), then most of the things that we as a society do in our everyday life would be completely useless. Answer this question: "why do u greet someone if it doesn't gain u anything?" If the answer would be something like: "well, I gain this person's respect and it feels morally good to greet someone because it's a social norm to do so. and when I do it, the person starts to think better of me, because it shows that I respect them". well, then why don't u want to do so with trans women if it does the same? that's what u gain by calling trans women - women, or greeting someone, or doing other countless social interactions.
