I’ve lived 65 years and never heard of feminine or masculine words. Wow, I wish I learned more languages when I was young. Sad to say my Italian parents are gone now, they would be so happy I’m going to Italy for the first time. My grandparents were from there. My mom spoke Italian before English, but as she grew up in America she lost it. Especially after her parents passed. Interestingly, at 88 with dementia her Italian came back. I miss you mom. And dad. I wish you were here. This would all come back to you. ❤

Trying my hand at Italian for the third time and I gotta say, this language is kicking my ass. I'm having no trouble memorizing nouns and verbs but the gendering of nouns or the different forms a word takes depending on its plurality is fucking killing me. It feels like there's no simple way to memorize it other than just keeping track of all of the individual cases I mess it up, which feels pretty frustrating.

Thanks Stefano! It cleared up some confusion for sure. I really appreciate the effort and time you put into your work. If I can request, could you put something together that talks about common occupations like a doctor, mechanic, librarian, police officer, bus driver, fireman, etc, etc..., With the same emphasis on gender? That might help some of us with practical application. Super appreciate your videos! Ciao from California! Ray T.

Grazie per le tue sempre chiare spiegazioni, Stefano. Ovviamente, non abbiamo articoli maschili e femminili e accordi sui nomi in inglese. Le tue spiegazioni chiare ed entusiaste sono meravigliose e utili.

Every time I watch this I want to add something. I have been a Spanish teacher for more than 30 years an we explain it like this: Nouns ending in -ama, -ema,- ima come from the Greek, and kept the gender like in greek and are exceptions. They are masculine ending in -a Nouns ending in: Sion, cion, tad, dad are femenine same in Italian.

I'm surprised that "radio" is feminine in Italian. In Portuguese "radio" can be both masculine or feminine depending if your talking about the object like the one on your car (masculine), or the station that broadcasts the radio program (feminine). And yes, I'm interested in the definite articles video. Especially the plural forms.
@frederiekvanbeckum2268

That’s probably because radio is actually an abbreviation of radiografia, just like foto and fotografia, which are all feminine.

It actually comes from “radiofonia” but yes that’s the idea! I wanted to make a whole video on abbreviated words (cinema, radio, foto, audio, bici). I think it’s very fascinating

@@teacherstefano Of course! That slipped my mind. As one says: una trasmissione radiofonica. Thanks for reminding me!
