Puff would have found a wedge to put between them because Puff knew what Pac was saying about him. I have a friend that worked with Puff back then ( I didn't know Pac knew them until after the Quad ish) my friend told me many years later that Pac would be in their ear telling them not to eff with Puff.

When Gene was asked in the beginning why Puffy didn't take it seriously when he received intel, I think that it goes deeper than ego. Puff was in enemy territory, and he received information from his security staff that someone was coming to get his camp -- yet he was inexplicably cavalier, brazen, and unconcerned. My suspicion is that Puff was a conspirator, and he was given assurance beforehand that nothing was going to happen to him. To me, that is the only explanation that would make sense because any other reasonable person would have operated with extreme caution under the circumstances -- or left California immediately, if not soon. Puff knew that someone from his camp was going to get touched -- but it wasn't going to be him. The plan was to kill Biggie; that's what my gut tells me. I could be wrong, but that's what I believe. This was a carefully orchestrated hit job, and Puff was in on it from the beginning.

It’s a damn shame biggie just couldn’t get a convo with Pac after the situation to clear everything up, Big got caught in the middle and then didn’t want to say the wrong thing
