That holiday was what the early roman version of Christmas was like back when it was Saturnalia

Funny how a holiday celebrating saturn (hades/the devil) somehow became Christ's birthday even though he wasn't born in December. Now it's all about making the rich richer but still encourages gluttonous, pagan behavior

Sounds like an extreme boxing day. When the wealthy families would give their servants a box of stuff (food, booze, presents) to take home the day after Christmas when they weren't needed.

Yeah Boxing Day. 26th of December, the rich guys and the servants trade places for a day, or the rich give gifts to the poor. The observance was never strictly defined. But seeing as how very few people in the UK are actually rich, we generally ignore it. The most observation it gets is as a shopping holiday, when places give massive discounts. It's a bit like Black Friday, but without the uncouth brawling you yanks enjoy on a Black Friday sale like it's fucking World War Z
