#CoupleCarReview
This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2022 Genesis GV80 mid-size luxury SUV. The GV80 is certainly is a standout on the road with its unique and modern exterior style. The bold G-Matrix Crest grille, signature Quad LED headlamps, dual exhaust outlets and available 22” Matrix design wheels create a sporty and athletic design.There are two engines to choose from with the Genesis GV80, the base engine is a 2.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 300 horsepower and 311 lb=ft of torque. The more powerful engine is the 3.5L twin-turbocharged V6 with 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. The GV80 2.5T comes standard with LED headlights and LED taillights, a smart power lift-gate, a panoramic sunroof, 19” wheels, blind spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert and 5-passenger seating. 7-passenger seating is available on the 3.5T models along with 22” wheels. Our GV80 test model is the top trim with the 3.5T engine in Cardiff Green. It is the only trim that comes with electronic limited slip differential and road active noise cancellation.There is no doubt Genesis offers a lot of value in this GV80, it comes with so many standard features, let’s check out the interior. The base GV80 model has a large14.5-inch touchscreen, an 8-inch LCD instrument display, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, heated leatherette front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, smart power tailgate and 5-passenger seating. All this for $64,500 CAD/$54,650 USD. One up for the base model for an extra $5500 CAD is where you’ll find leather seats, a head-up display, ventilated front seats and a surround view monitor. Moving up to the more powerful GV80 engine, the 3.5T base model for an extra $10,000 CAD compared to the top 2.5T trim gets you the 7-passenger seating, genuine wood interior trim, leather seating with quilting, a 21-speaker Lexicon audio system and electronic control suspension.
For an extra $5,000 CAD the top trim adds electronic limited slip differential, road active noise cancellation, a 12.3” LCD digital instrument cluster, 16-way power driver’s seat, remote smart parking assist, Nappa leather seats with quilting, ventilated front and second row seats, power folding 3rd row seats and soft close doors.

I own a palisade limited 2021. The vehicle has tragic build quality. Please watch videos on my channel for more details. Horrible odors comes out of through the the cabin. The roof, rattles constantly when I am driving. It is extremely anoying. There is too much plastic throughout the entire cabin of the palisade limited. Everytime I go over a bump or a rock. I could hear all the plastic in the cabin making a loud squeaking noise. My experience with the palisade has been Horrible. This is actually my second palisade. I am extremely disappointed in the build quality of the palisade. I wanted to buy the Gv80. By with my experience with the palisade. I think I will look some where else. Went to the Quebec 2024 Auto show and got to seat in the GV70. First time in a Genesis. I thought the interior was stunning. I actually preferred it to the BMW. I felt the seats were so next level in terms of comfort. We own a XC90 that we like, but it s a 2019 and we’re thinking about changing it in the near future. The Genesis will be in the list. We saw the GV80 Coupe , it s really nice.

I am in the same boat. The technology is daunting... at first. Let's be real though, how much of the tech will you use on a daily basis? I am betting those features become second nature. HOWEVER, I dont think I'm going to be using the self parking feature in the city for the first time any time soon. I might ask family to park there cars so I can practice.

I own one also. I spent 2 days with youtube instructions on how to operate this car and that pays off stopping the cconfusion with the info system. You have to work with it then it is easy too me anyway. Makes a ton of highend power that is very smooth and quiet! If you want another 100 hp JB4 makkes a tune for it that works great! Also tigger woods crash was at 87mph and he never hit the brakes (data report fromonboard blackbox) and he hit some trees. He had a broken leg....and a bent 4 iron....pretty impressive engineering IMHO!

@@scooter5940 We are still incredibly happy with our purchase more than a year later. Service has been excellent from scheduling to loaner to everything. I often keep cars for more than 10 years so I look at the investment long term. About year 4 is when you will really notice the difference between the Genesis and Audi / BMW. So when I go spend $55 for an oil change on my Genesis at the dealer, my Audi / BMW counterparts will be spending $150 to change their oil. If you need a part or more extensive service, those German brands are going to be super expensive. People never consider this when looking at the total cost of ownership. Of course the Genesis is going to be way cheaper than the German brands. I have better things to spend my money on than $150 oil changes.
@scooter5940
@scooter5940 Жыл бұрын
@@bmanders1 Totally understand. I just got my 10-year old GL 450 back from oil and some various filter changes and it was over $400. I doubt my next car will be a German luxury brand, not because I don't like the GL (now GLS) or that it has been unreliable, but in part due to the cost of long-term maintenance and in part because when I bought the car in 2013, if offered features that were hard to find then, but are mainstream in more upscale cars now. All I am saying is the Genesis does not have the refinement, engineering, and brand following of a BMW or Mercedes - that's why it is cheaper And, appearance is subjective.
@trstnhn
@trstnhn Жыл бұрын
@@scooter5940 you pay $20k more to get the same refinement and engineering of a genesis. Prob 30k more if you want to something superior. Genesis cars are more than fine so idk what your issue is. Stop being so fixated with something being German. Judge cars individually for what they are, not for where they are made or what badge they have. And why do u care about brand following? I know badge snobbery is a real thing but I try my best to not be sold into that sort of nonsense.

My fiancée loves the Aviator, which may be what we get but now the GV80 and even GV70 have my attention. We just traded our 2020 Aviator for the GV80. The main driver was the infotainment system. The Aviator infotainment system was unreliable, features and settings were always lost. Don't understand the hate on the GV80 Infotainment controller - Same as all others, just use the outside ring to rotate through settings or use the D-Pad style cursor to move through. Take the time to get the system set up to your preferences and the system is great.

@@Motormouth... To clarify this point though - you love the GV70 system but hate the GV80 system, but by "system" you really just mean the type of scroll wheel right? I think you differentiate this point in your GV70 review as well, but to clarify here it's not the software or layout of the interface, it's just the input device? Which is no small thing either -- but when I hear system I think high level, more far reaching than just the wheel being flat with knurling vs. raised like in the GV70. I have a Giulia with the raised wheel and do like that more vs. the GV80, but did test drive a GV80 a few weeks ago and thought the aluminum wheel felt pretty cool, and could definitely get acclimated to it. It had enough texture where you can touch any part of the ring with a finger or two and pretty effortlessly spin the wheel accurately -- I've seen some folks put their thumb and index finger on opposite sides of the wheel and turn their wrist -- which limits your range of motion since your wrist only rotates so far, but if you lay your hand more flat and just have your index and middle finger on the wheel you just move the ring around... which you can do continuously to get wherever you need to go -- almost like those little knobs they put on steering wheels on boats, can keep rotating without moving or adjusting your hand/grip. Anyway, the software seems pretty solid to me, wheel is personal preference, but seems like both could can adjusted too when you own the car, so first impressions seem like they're a little too tough on the GV80 wheel.

"Luxury isn't about features, luxury is about heritage." What an absurd comment. I don't drive or experience heritage; heritage is all branding and marketing. Features are exactly what I experience when I buy/drive a car, and what this video tells me is that this car drives just as well and offers more features than its direct competition for less money.

I live in an upper middle class neighbourhood, within an earshot of our Nation’s Capital (with a population of a million-ish). I see X5’s, Q7’’s, Benz’s and the like regularly. However, I rarely see any Genesis products. I have never seen any of the GV70s or 80s in my local area. They do appear attractive enough, but I’m not certain on their scarcity. Is that because their pricing? Or maybe Genesis’s decision to not have a proper dealership network... as of yet. Because, surprisingly... I quite like it (pricing aside obviously). They should have focused on how Toyota rolled out Lexus into the market. It’s just that people who have paid $85,000 plus for their luxurious Genesis don’t want to stand in line around people who are complaining about their $67 wheel cover that needs replacing from their Used Hyundai Accent. It is a nice ride though. Thanks for another entertaining video.

You just earned a subscriber! In my opinion, this SUV in no world compares to anything German. Yes, they spent time making it look flashy, and used nicer materials on the inside. If you only consider that this SUV uses at least 30% more fuel compared to any German engine with similar displacement, that tells you that the engineering is on a totally different level.

The GV80 goes to show how people really are drawn to the power of a brand. Or in the case of the GV80 not drawn. It's really too bad because I would bet that the Genesis product is every bit as good if not better than the German brands in terms of quality and reliability. I am amazed at how many people don't care about that and would sooner pay more for the cachet of a brand even if it means less reliability and higher maintenance costs. The Genesis product will have to by many multiples better just to make any kind of an impact IMHO.

I don't think it's all about brand recognition. I also wouldn't say GV80 is more reliable than its German competitors. There are multiple reports where the engine shutting off while driving and engine rattling in Korea to the point GV80 was featured in the news multiple time as a safety concern. Hyundai still hasn't figured out why some of their 2.5T engines do this. Also, the transmission & suspension of GV80 is sub-par compared to X5 or GLE. On top of that 2022 GV80, 3.5T Prestige isn't any cheaper compared to X5/GLE even with comparable options included in them. Don't get me wrong, I love GV80 and have been seriously contemplating buying it. But after test driving all three cars and researching the comparable cars, I quickly learned that the price they set on these cars is bonkers.
