Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse is a 1990 platform game developed by Sega and released for the Mega Drive / Sega Genesis. An 8-bit version of the game was later released for the Master System and Game Gear. The game follows Mickey Mouse on a quest to save Minnie Mouse from the evil witch Mizrabel. It was the first game in Sega's long-running Illusion video game series starring Mickey and was also a part of the second wave of games initially released for the Mega Drive / Genesis which helped seal the console's reputation within the period until the release of Sonic the Hedgehog in 1991.
Castle of Illusion was very well received by critics, especially the original 16-bit version. It was re-released in 1998 in Japan as part of the Sega Ages: Mickey Mouse & Donald Duck for the Sega Saturn, which features both Castle of Illusion and QuackShot. A remake of the game by Sega Studios Australia was released for PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and PC in September 2013. The game was also included on the Sega Genesis Mini in 2019.

I like the Boss music, but I also like that this version of the first boss was able to fit in the hole in the tree. <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="315">5:15</a>

Mickey only ever frown in this game when he's crouching, because the graphics weren't complex enough to animate that.

GOOD gameplay, good moves and really cool some optimizations to hit enemies. But it was necessary to go ahead and reach the end at <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="871">14:31</a> to get the items there. I consider this a secret that must be explored. Also in the beginning (<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="205">3:25</a>) between the leaves and the spiders there are certainly more items to be collected, but some might say they are not secrets... ok. Overall, excellent gameplay

You make this game look easy! It's a decent difficulty but not too over the top in my eyes but again... you make it look way too easy lol! I played through it several times when I made a video for my channel where I corrupted the game play, graphics, and sounds and I am positive that even with being able to rewind the emulator, I didn't make it through this easy!

This second (Jack in the box) boss is the first boss that's better in the remake. In this version he lets you hit him, and in the remake he accidentally punches himself and accidentally releases a bunch of springs.

How did the candy land stage get 4 layers of scrolling. I see overlapping layers, is that sprites used with fancy line scrolling? Blew my mind back in the day.. now I know how the Genesis works it's more of a mystery..

No that's not what happened, Mickey used her own power against her and turned her into a mouse, it's the exact reverse of what Misrabel intended to do with Minnie, he just reversed that power onto her.

Better gameplay, but the Genesis was a next gen master class in visuals, there was nothing as pretty as it on the market at the time of its release. Even now, I still think it's one of the Genesis' best looking games, it took a few years to beat it and it still held up even when it was. Heck, still looks beautiful today.
