This is the earliest known footage of a live Genesis concert. The original TV report had the film all mixed up, so I've tried to put it in the right order, matched up with the audio from the concert.

The earliest footage of a Genesis live concert is probably the Atomic Sunrise Festival featuring Ant Philips and John Mayhew from March 1970, when they played Looking for Someone and The Knife. But still, this is a precious treasure. That's the only performance of Stagnation I've ever watched in Genesis career, and for that alone this video already deserves thousands of likes.

Now that the curtain has closed on The Last Domino, these old clips even become more cherished. I became a fan of the band in 71' and musically those were heady days indeed. Steve to his credit is doing yeoman's work keeping the classic era alive but even those days grow short. Thanks for posting.

Mica come adesso". Adesso cosa resta dopo l'apocalisse musicale?

Musicisti e compositori buoni ci saranno sempre. Forse sono troppo duro con gli '80. Saranno quelle batterie orribili...

This actually isn't the first live footage of them ever recorded - there is footage of them performing with their first guitarist, Anthony Phillips, and one of their drummers before Phil (I don't know which one) on KZfaq (Atomic Sunrise Festival, I think?). But, this footage is much, much better. I love when Phil laughs at Mike after he talks - he was the stress-reliever in the group, and that's a prime example that isn't often seen. Thanks for putting this together. :)

I have the 'I Know What I Like' book by Armando Gallo, and it doesn't say when the change occurred, but judging on photos and this clip, the new look and haircut seemed to occur in Apr 72 when on tour in Italy, if not, on a date close by. Being a Genesis geek, Pete's look was not shown to a large UK crowd 'til the Lincoln Fest on 28th May '72. There doesn't seem to be an actual live concert clip of Genesis before the posted, though I wish there was! The earlier Pop Shop on TV is live tho (Jan '72)
