start with black templar, if you find them interesting, you can train a lot of painting with the standart troops and can work on tanks and terminators. This will help you getting into the priming, painting, maybe sponging and a lot of other tutorials. watch the airbrush video of the poorhammer podcast and then decide if you get an airbrush,it will help you a lot, but it is still its own technique. Get a wetpallet (there are a lot of diy wetpallets), it will help you also a lot and will teach you how to thin your paint. i dont recommend raven guard, because they are currently more nieche and dark angels have more fine detail, that could be overwelming for beginners, but could come later if you feel a bit more confident with the brush.

Just paint them black and you can run them as whatever chapter you like, Dark Angles pre heresy colors were black. Raven Guard are.. black and guess what color Black Templars are..

Faction only matters for specific characters and detachments. You can paint your army however you want to. I have been playing a lot of Black Templars lately, and they're a ton of fun with great faction specific units. I think the best thing to do is just play whatever you think is cool, hobbying is an enormous portion of 40k, so you might as well enjoy what you build, paint, and play. Welcome to the hobby!

Personally, I run Templars. They're very fun to play, even if you lose, as they make you feel like you're accomplishing stuff with high power units, good combos and pretty frickin cool epic heroes. Their special battle line, the Primaris Crusader Squad, is really good, and you can bring 20 of them in one squad. It's quite rare to bring 20 Marines in a single squad, and its only 280 points to do so. Plus they all have OC2 so controlling objectives isn't too hard. The sword brethren, another Templars Only unit, attached to Helbrecht is one of the killiest units in the game. All in all, they are quite good to start with, generally not hard to understand and get the hang of, and just overall fun.

I wonder and dont understand? does GW not have any final quality/performance testing people? no good players to check datasheets and rules? I mean you just look at these datasheets and EVERYONE can immediatly see that there is glaring problems with the armies datasheets.. does gw just dont care to test or double check what they put out? I somehow genuily fear for my imperial knights codex release, because all the powerful armies from the start seem terribly nerfed in these.. will I get T9 armigers with S:8 weapons? will my big knights melee weapon have D6 damage? Im joking now, but is this my reality next year?

Even the games that GSC has lost that I've seen, they end the game having come within a few points. They're all close games.

ultimately it depends on the points. Horde GSC is... well, it MIGHT compensate.

Gsc rules are gas 😅 if you play with the points in the book it's crazy so I assume once they get some of their super nerfed points fixed they'll be fine

@johnj.spurgin7037 spirit stones no, they are individuals. Maybe theres some rare case of non individualistic ones but I'm familiar. And the infinity circut treat like an internet message board. Its only a fraction of their psychic power, just consciousness not any sort of sensory perceptions.

Using the wrong points it’s definitely not good. Unfortunately we won’t know the points until the book is out

@tenshimusouka5820 I truly feel like points is the least of the GSC book's problems. If you nerf everything, then u end up with a limp codex. It seems like everything was nerved, changed for changes sake, or had flavor needlessly removed.

@@LSDJester67 that’s definitely a factor, but right now it’s just too early to make an educated judgement. Losing flavour is one thing but we can’t judge the power without knowing the points. Tau was looking to be the most insanely overpowered book so far, but when they got their points, it drastically toned them down. Will the proper points make GSC a top tier army? Nope. Will it bring back lost flavour? Not a chance! Could it be enough for them to win games? Absolutely!

@tenshimusouka5820 I'm just in the category where I don't really care about power level as much as does it feel unique, flavorful, and fun. Obviously, I'd like to have a chance to win, but I don't need a broken book, just not trash-tier. My main buddy plays Orks, so this just feels like I'm gonna get wrecked before we start, as opposed to losing because he played better, or I made a mistake. I don't like feeling like I'm more likely to lose just cause of the book I'm playing.
